Someone on reddit larping as an high-level accountant posted about how such a narrow loss reported must have been deliberate. He claimed that accountants can to some degree creatively shift the numbers to tell a narrative (hollywood accounting) and that just a 2M loss compared to a 100M loss in the previous year could have easily been shifted into green territory this way.
Assuming Gamestops accountants have this option why report such a narrow loss instead of a just as narrow profit?
Fact is the second quarter has historically been the worst of the year with the 3rd and especially the fourth being the strongest. Given that last quarter was profitable they could have plausibly set up for 12 months of straight profits but choose not to.

Next quarter will see the results of starfield and BG3 sales, after that comes the holiday quarter.

Digital only MIGHT happen the cycle after the Switch 2, IF Sony and Microsoft go that direction in the next few years. But Nintendo likes physical because it gives them more control over distribution, which is extremely valuable to them when you consider their overall rollout strategy. They don't want to be pressured into the digital churn, they want to keep to a stable schedule and be able to do shit like Amiibos and weird peripherals. They will never, ever give up some aspect of physical (probably their consoles), because they'll never turn over that control to a third party.

But a lot bigger than just giving a shit about Ken and his empire of mayonnaise, RRP at nothing would mean the larder that banks have built up over the last couple years hoarding cash would have been depleted which has huge ramifications for other market sectors than just the stock market. You're talking about a situation in which the fed would have to print at a pretty serious pace and handle a bunch of bank failures and mergers and do all of that at the same time, it would be grim. That RRP hit the heights it did up near three trillion dollars was more a testament to how buttfucking shitdicked terrified banks and finance were of what was on the horizon in the rebalancing of the markets now that a decade and a half of ZIRP has come calling for what it's owed.
