A good friend of mine manages a Dick's in Maryland. While they have LP, and can stop people before they exit the store, once they are out there's nothing they can do about it. People come in with backpacks, baggy clothes, etc and stuff Yeti cups and other small, high markup items and then haul ass out of the store.
Last year they went to the trouble of hiring an off-duty officer to loiter at the door, which he said was extremely effective in deterring outside theft. That guy had zero compunction with stopping people on the way out the door.

Everything in a sporting goods store has a profound markup on it. There's a pretty good mixture of whiteoids and naygrows trying to hoist the shitty 95% marked up trash from China.
