So during the zombie apocalypse, will people care about face value at all, or just about silver content? For example, this fine specimen contains 7g of silver. There's also 10DM coins 9.69g silver, which is obviously not twice the silver. To make matters worse, there's also a newer 10DM with 14.34g silver and higher 925 purity (the others are just 625). How do you imagine the normies to cope with this, of at all?

I hope you know that they're closer to spot only because the silver purity is lower. "The copper is free" doesn't make much sense because the cost of refining the silver from the copper and vice versa would offset the value of the copper. This is why 35% silver nickels and 40% silver half dollars are often sold below spot in the US.

Coin cleaning is numismatic trooning.

You will never be uncirculated. You have no detail, you have no luster, you have no open field. You are a circulated piece twisted by chemicals and abrasives into a crude mockery of a mint’s perfection. All the “value” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your stackers are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “dealers” laugh at your ghoulish appearance behind closed doors. Collectors are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of hours at shows have allowed dealers to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even cleaned coins which “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a grader. Your hairlines are a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a drunk guy to buy you, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets out the magnifying loop. You will never be valuable. You look at the red book every morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight. Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll submit a form, pack an envelope, pay the $50, and submit to NGC. The graders will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to worry about a fraud circulating. They’ll slab you with a label marked "cleaned", and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a fraud is graded there. Your slab will stagnate and be covered in dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a shelfwarmer forever occupying a coin shop.

With euro VAT and a long term view and/or a doomer outlook, going for something cheap and recognizable could still make sense.
Plus, in the meantime, those coins often have a very low spread (like >5%!), so assuming society won't collapse, they might fetch a better price than bullion silver, which tends to get sold way above spot, but bought back below it.

Outside of a currency collapse scenario yes of course they will sell closer to spot, but I predict that if he were to sell to others, especially dealers, only subpar offers for them would be received (much as how the debased nickels and halves sell for below spot in the US)

Yes, you get bread for silver, so even your 5 Mark are useful (half a loaf of bread i guess). But 999.9 silver/gold will always seen as more valuable.
However, zombie apocalypse is unlikely. Just extrapolate what you have now into the future, it's the most likely scenario. In that case, high silver content, unused coins with security features will get the highest prices.

in a SHTF scenario, you're going to have the same issue as gold with big silver bars: how do you break enough off to pay for a few bags of rice or whatever.

Whereas it's really easy to pay with a silver dime/quarter etc + recognizable factor.

of course in a true SHTF scenario, having actual silver isn't probably going to help you right away. Guns/ammo/food/medicine/antibiotics etc are all going to be more important right away.

Remember, gold and silver were used as money for a long time BEFORE the coin was invented. People simply weighed the chunks of metal. And that was before electronic scales were available. And pieces of eight were routinely cut into bits to pay smaller amounts. PMs are infinitely divisible. One of several reasons they have always been money.

yes, but eventually things will calm down, and life will resume. But fiat currency will be useless still so we need something to buy stuff with. What happens in countries where the currency collapses?
>>55828156
>PMs are infinitely divisible
A dollar of gold would be like a single grain of sand. Wouldn't it be difficult to buy everyday items with gold in the modern world? If currency collapses and we have to buy things with PMs, it just seems like silver would have more everyday use if you're buying things that currently cost like $5-10.

Wait? What?>the math
Was done using picrel. Also refining at home is always an option although not really worth it for coins ever.
Let's say you've got a pre97 10DM coin. It's 15.5g of 625Ag (or 9.7g silver content). And I sell it for melt @ the current price of 0.43€/g. So I get 5.7€ for it. But current lowest price to buy the coin is 6.7€. So I lost 15%. Granted, this is better than loosing 19% when I buy 999 and sell that for melt, but it's not the free money you make it sound like, especially when you generally can sell it for a lower spread (though ironically, the first buyback price for said 10DM I found was lower than melt (by 20 cents, but still).
OR does that calcualation fo yours include home refining? I doubt that this is feasible (both from a price and practicability standpoint, but I'd love to be corrected).

I'm not claiming it's free money or even some kind of arbitrage opportunity or anything. I'm just saying that other than the dead weight there is no disadvantage to buying 625 silver given the price is as close to spot as it is. Refining at home might be a bit much but some here do it. It's not that hard, just involves some nasty chemicals, mostly requires nitric acid and gives off toxic fumes. It's not worth it either way because the original coins sell for more than the refined silver content but if you hate copper it's not too difficult if you can read.
tl;dr it's cheap to buy and if you were to sell spread is not worse or maybe even better than bullion

It’s a demoralization campaign. Nobody wants to be associated with trannies (see bud light), so funny hats LARP as trannies to make the place cringe.

I held up a magnet to some of my silver (a handheld magnet, I don't have the kind in OP video) and felt a little bit of force from it, barely noticeable. Is that normal? Do I need a stronger magnet like in the linked video to know anything for sure? I tried selling a couple bars today but the guy at the shop tested it with a similar handheld magnet and told me it was fake.

The only way to end the fed is to stop playing the game. Convert your federal reserve notes into real money (gold / silver / honey etc etc). The fed controls the entire digital world. Once enough people stop playing the board gets flipped.

Yes, what you feel are breaking forces only. You want a neodymium magnet. Take apart an old hard disc.

what was the size of the silver?
You'll feel a little bit of resistance, but not enough that it'll stop the magnet from sliding.

Third worlders will get excited, then they will calm down again. They will continue to blame the US and Europe for all their problems and they will continue to fail.
What did you think would happen?

>> No.55835319

>>55835247
Ah, the BRICS fud appears with insults instead of analysis.

The combined GDP of the BRICS is now about equal to the G7 and the strong trend lines shows BRICS getting stronger while G7 falls behind. The BRICS also have substantial natural resources, land, labor, and gold.

And while they may hate each other, they - and the rest of the world - hate the USA more and will do their best to kick it under the bus.

That they do not trust each other merely makes the better case for a gold-backed currency. Otherwise they will not be able to control inflation. With gold you don't need to trust.

Finally, a BRICS alternative to the LME monopoly will undermine the phony Western metals market.

The American empire and monetary scam is coming to an end and America has only itself to blame.
