my familiy owns a tobacco shop, and i was recently put in charge of it. WTF how dafuq do you market a brick and mortar shop? most of our customer base are soon to die boomers and i have a tough time coming up with strategy to replace them with millenials or zoomies. even if i put more emphasis on selling vape's and cigars, how do i get the message out to potential customers?

people will complain anyway, people will find a way to complain, because they can complain. you know how much shit people have to put up with where they can't complain? finally you give them something they can complain about, so they will complain. Let them complain and simply go about your business, even better ''accidently'' drop another flyer in their box and say you don't know how it got there.

tldr;
they complain because they can and you shouldn't feel bad about it.
anyway you have a dying business, I suggest you sell whatever you have left online and find something else.

we are not represented on google maps, i think thats a good start. but we do have every kind of tobacco product you mentioned. the problem is much more communicating the offer to the neighborhood. we also sell single malt whiskey's and all kinds of accesories for tobacco products (pipes, cigar cutter, cigarette cases)
>Tobacco is being taxed and jewed into nonexistence, it's not the best business to be in I reckon.
it depends. we have a very loyal (boomer) customer base that have been coming for 50+ years. if you have a signigicant market share in your neighborhood, its easy money. the truble is replacing the old ones with new customers, because the product i am selling them literally kills them.

>> No.55789201

>>55789037
As others mentioned you diversify into tangentially related products, vapes, bongs, any drug you inhale. Can diversify more by combining it into a convenience store like 7/11, sell lottery tickets, drinks, snacks, etc.
Try to get things that people can't easily get elsewhere. Things like vanilla coke, I literally can't find it anywhere except 1 convenience store near me that imports it and overcharges but I'm not going to order it online. Same with Icees, I'd have to drive 20 minutes to get one on the other side of town, they're hard to get near me.
Branding is important, you want a recognizable name/logo/colors that you use everywhere for everything.
You also establish an online presence, a website, all the info on google maps, phone number/store hours, let people order online, you do not want to be exclusively available to your local area, but having a local presence will give you an advantage.
If you can let people order via ubereats/doordash/etc. Offer discounts, promotions if they buy in bulk, etc.
Participate in local events, wear a shirt that promotes your business, it's free marketing. Find existing communities/influencers that are open to marketing tobacco and try to do promotions with them. You don't have to restrict yourself to just tobacco though, you can sell anything, or even make your own products, or sell smaller businesses products, or let someone pay you to put a vending machine in your business.
Imagine someone new trying to start a business, you're already 10 steps ahead of them by having a store/product/customers, so you just have to worry about trying to grow it. There's so many things you can do, try to get creative, get it online and find ways to get attention. Attention is the name of the game.
Good luck.

how does one introduce someone else properly to pipe tobacco? i would think that would include giving them a prepared pipe to try on the spot or at home later? thats kind of hard, when the pipes themselve cost alot.

>>55789961
>But these blends are genuinely tasty, and they look weird in their plastic bags so people ask where you bought it
that does sound convincing. also tobacco smokers are much more likely to change the tobacco brand than cigarette smokers. i'd have to figure out were to get the tobacco, but i think that sounds like a great method to increase margins. people usually buy a pack of tobacco once a week, and spending 3 or 4 bucks more on a weekly basis is something that most people can afford. thank you i think that coul'd actually work

>Also what kind of cigars do you recommend for people that have never smoked one?
i would go for a "Joya de Nicaragua" (picrel)
they are very good from a "Bang for the buck" point of view. if you prefer something more mild you could try "Camacho Conetticut" thats the orange camacho. Conneticut in this case has nothing to do with the state, but is the name of the wrapper leave.
dont be afraid to try stronger cigars just because you are a beginner, you might like them. i started with cubans because i had access to them, turns out i like strong cigars.
my picks for strong cigars are "Joya de Nicaragua Antono CT" and "Partagas D4" in robusto format, or "Montechristo P2" or "Partagas P2" if you can afford them.

You've gotten some great advice in this thread. To directly address your marketing question, there are two components of marketing. 1 is the "what" you are marketing. To be more in depth, it isnt the product. It's how you portray the product, or your business. You are not in a business of "needs". You're in the business of "wants". Customer choice will therefore be more of an emotional decision than a logical one. Due to the fact you have a loyal base of older people, but few younger people, you already have a target demographic. Guaranteed there are youth who are using tobacco who aren't patrons of your store. That is your target demographic, and you must decide how to portray your business in advertisements in a way that doesnt also alienate your current user base. You arent trying to convince the youth to smoke. But, if you already are, well then your store is the place to shop. Find a way to appeal to that.

#2 is actual execution of marketing. This is the how. Given your target demographic, you should be focusing on technology related advertisements. Google, social media, geofencing, etc. This is an area where it is worth finding a good marketing consultant, or someone that knows how to advertise effectively. Possibly look for a business that isn't in direct competiton with you and has a great advertising program going. Ask for information/contacts. Dig around. Get a simple, clean website together. Obviously there's more but that's a good place to get started.

They never explain the nuances of cancer - nothing causes cancer per se, certain things simply raise the likelihood of developing it, and then other things decrease the ability of your body to nuke cancer cells, which is a standard function of your immune system by the way.
The problem with tobacco causing cancer is that the majority of the studies deal with cigarette smokers - and cigarettes are full of additives which then undergo combustion and turn into even more shit. While even pure tobacco is carcinogenic, notice how they never mention the effect size of that - is one cigar more carcinogenic than 2 hours in a plane, or an hour under direct sunlight? How does one cigar compare to one cigarette? What about snus and snuff users? There's a lot of nuance there that's missing in the popular discourse. All we know is 'smoking is... le bad'.

Open a hookah lounge. Its like a bar but with different shisha flavors. The most part is the atmosphere. You need dim lighting, couches and comfy chairs and eclectic furniture, maybe a few TVs playing weird obscure shit and some lofi beats music playing. Thats how you pull in the zoomies. They want a place to hang out, not a place to buy shit. Sell them shisha at some exorbitant price, and sell the exact same shit for cheaper in your store. Lower your holdings of cigarettes, zoomies hate them and if they dont they will just get them at a gas station.

lmao you're hilarious. I bet you have a "4chan/biz" t-shirt that you wear under your jumper so no 'normies' can see it and join your precious club. How old are you? I can't decide whether you're a really sad twat whose entire world has been this website for years or a silly kid that's enjoying a fad and will be onto something else in a few months. I'm intrigued.

what some of you guys don't seem to get is that the shop is doing fine right now, but i would like to proactively get a younger customerbase before it turns into a problem.
we're located in a conservative area of town with a lot of customers in the upper percentile of earners. drug culture is kind of alienating them. we do sell cbd though and most of the potheads in the neighborhood get their papers and acive charcoal filters from us. weed paraphernalia has good margins too.

>>55790983
undercutting snus prices might be something that draws customers from other neighborhoods. i also have a good source of them getting very cheap prices. i noted that.

How about a utility project that swaps coins cheaper then Uniswap and 1inch. And other utilities like staking and Liquidity locking.
Its called Ethane.app and it will change how you swap. It also has some of the best revenue sharing metrics in the crypto space.

Make sure your Google maps listing is filled out correct and nicely. Put good pictures up which are representative of the different things you sell especially the things people most often search for.

That's a good point for trying to get a you her crowd, a lot of zoomers are afraid of noncorporate looking places. Making the exterior look nice and clean and welcoming at least should help.

Good google maps stuff will also help bring in tourists. When you're traveling it's hard to find things so if a smoke shop pops up on google with good photos & accurate info, 9/10 times I'm going there because I know it'll be open and not sketchy.
Also, at least here a lot of stuff is sold near the register that's a huge rip-off but that people might need (usb cables/charged for iphones, bongs, etc.) People come in for their cigarettes or liquor, but will occasionally buy those things with high profit margin and that's what can help you.
