1945 - yield curve "inverted", many expected recession - post war boom prevented it; however, this inversion is not a normal one, as the Fed was controlling the yield curve until the war ended, then was allowing short term bonds to be changed but not the long term - so I wouldn't really say it counts
1966 - government spending caused inflation; yield curve inverted - Fed able to reduce inflation without causing a super hard landing - mild recession in 1969
1989 Japan bubble crisis - however mild recession did occur 1990-91 USA savings and loan crisis too
1998 Asian Financial Crisis - however the can just got kicked for several years (2000-2001 blow up)
2005-2006 - yield curve inverted in 2006; everyone expected recession, they were able to kick the can until 2008 blow up
2019 - yield curve inverted, pandemic excuse to unleash liquidity globally to prevent systemic blow up, kicked the can
2020 - covid fears of recession; absurd government spending kicked the can (as GDP is Consumption + Investment + Government spending + (exports - imports) --- if you increase government spending through borrowing, you're not in a recession
Chat GPT:
>I apologize for any confusion caused. You are correct in noting that in the examples provided, the recessions were either mitigated, delayed, or occurred but were mild. The only example where a recession was avoided entirely, as per the information available, was the example of 1945.
>I apologize for any misunderstandings earlier and appreciate your clarification. While there have been instances where yield curve inversions were followed by milder or delayed recessions, finding examples where a recession was completely avoided despite an inverted yield curve can be more challenging.
So really only 1945 - a lot of fears of the economy going down the shitter after transitioning to peace; with the Federal Reserve having done yield curve control for the whole war -- very, very different situation than the one we are currently in

Why? The high core inflation coupled with the low and falling PPI means companies can freely increase their prices and more than adequately compensate for inflation (hell, significantly more as increases are far over inflation).

>In economics and finance, a Glownigger Market is said to occur when a country's financial policymakers begin manipulating econometric data for their political benefit. [1] This may be accompanied by organized propaganda campaigns, hidden monetary easing, as well as other forms of financial repression, in order to reinforce the illusion that a nation's troubled economy is sound and resilient. [2, 3] In a Glownigger Market, stocks may seem to rally, even irrationally so, in the face of worsening economic conditions. However, while the goal of a Glownigger Market is to either delay or prevent a politically undesireable financial correction from occurring, the policy actions that led to the Glownigger Market invariably increase the severity of the subsequent financial crisis. By attempting to overpower healthy corrective market forces, a Glownigger Market causes extreme capital misallocation that can turn a minor economic downturn into a severe and protracted economic depression. Is investing into commodities dead? Unless you bought literally during the covid dip, all commodities strongly underperform compared to big tech. Fuguguggggugug I regret going into this crap, thinking that commodities are valuable on account of them actually being a physical asset.
Nah, it's all about growth and has been ever since cca 2010, and especially since 2019 when the printer has been extra active

There are several different kinds of leveraged ETFs. There are commodities trackers, single stocks, sector tracking, and broad index tracking.
There are pros and cons to maintaining high leverage..

On the upside, you get more exposure to gains. As the dollar tends to devalue over time, assets tend to see natural appreciation. Compounding these gains at 2 or 3x pace can quickly lead to insane returns.
The major drawbacks are volatility decay and cost of leverage (real interest rate). Volatility decay is The concept that a sequence of equivalent gains/losses will produce losses due to the asymmetry of returns. For example, a 10% loss followed by a 10% gain cumulatively leaves you with only 99% of the original, a 1% loss. As a more extreme version, to fully recover from a 90% loss, it would take a 900% gain. In practice, this drawback tends to be overrated as the decay is minimal given low day-to-day vol typically experienced in most index funds, and returns tend to skew positive anyway - the gains from positive days will generally be larger than the losses.
Cost of leverage is the real killer over the long term. As these funds were largely popularized following the GFC of 2008, most shills will use backtested data from a period where nominal interest rates were zero, and real yields were negative. Effectively, buyers of stocks and other assets on margin during the past 15 years were subsidized. Nowadays, the real interest rate is expected to be closer to +2%. There is once again a real cost associated with leverage. Long term returns of leveraged ETFs must exceed this cost to deliver real returns. In essence, this is likely impossible.

Commodities ETFs in particular see much higher volatility and trade against a futures curve often pricing in large future pumps (contango) due to seasonality, so these tend to function function worse as long term holds, compared to other LETFs.
