In my place the most popular distributions are Debian and CentOS. Their main difference is package manager lol.

Look at the job market, what skill the employers require. Pick the easiest ones for the start. Learn them.
The easier job I was able to get was requiring minimal knowledges of Linux command line tools, and some software like Apache, Nginx.
They were teaching me like 3 months and paying me 100% of the salary.
The easiest place to start is Technical Support with Linux skills. You can improve your skills there and build portfolio. And there are remote from home positions. But don't spend too much of time at Technical support because it's shit.
After that you can look for monitoring, DevOps, Linux Engineer, etc..
