It's a very imperfect system, for sure. The drivers aren't actually employees, so they don't really have to give a shit, and they won't get fired for being late on an order. The apps themselves also try to get drivers to take multiple orders by spamming them with notifications saying "HERE'S MORE ORDERS THAT ARE 'ON THE WAY' TO YOUR FIRST DELIVERY, TAKE THEM NOW!"
I did Doordash for like 6 months, and I never took double orders, because I actually cared about doing a good job and earning stars. I base it on distance more than anything, but I rarely order from somewhere far. I pretty much only tip between $2-3, maybe 4 or 5 if I'm feeling generous. Any less than that and it's still not worth it for them. Any more than that and the apps will just batch your order with someone who didn't tip in order to get the no-tip order picked up and delivered anyway.
