I wrote a shitty song about this.

>they abandoned ornate palace wings
>filled with gilded shiny things
>burled walnut chests and chairs
>silken walls and marble stairs
>left it all for glass boxes behind gates
>where servile sentries just sit and wait

>we let the wolves right in our homes
>they’re on our TVs, they’re on our phones
>they expect your gratitude for shifting shit that you don’t need
>lest you dare to bite the hand that feeds

They're not needed anymore. Those served a function: to provide an elite with the ability to govern a large estate. It had to be a house, an office, a five star restaurant, and a hotel all in one. Because communication and travel were so limited, you needed to have all of that in one location. Imagine if you were governor of a state but you had to be under house arrest, so you needed to build a house where you could do literally everything. That's what these are. Often there were stately concerns as well, so you needed to be able to host important events and be able to impress others with your estate.

Just keep the windows closed so no dirt inside, and buy picrel to mow the lawn, and you're set.

Technological advances have obviated the need to have large house staffs to help with yard work, maintenance, cooking, and cleaning. A modern mansion doesn’t need to serve a dual function as a hotel to house your staff, so it can be smaller

We were so close to going back to that with covid lockdowns. Palace life seems super comfy.

The French Revolution and the Russian Revolution signaled to all the elites elsewhere that congregating in a single place on the daily is not the smartest thing to do when your peasant class (ie the majority of your country) is pissed off and calling for heads to roll.

It takes an entire staff to upkeep these things. (((They))) demonized working under a singular employer that included free room and board with you actually build a bond with in favor of being a faceless cog in a machine that will replace you any moment you become an inconvenience and being a rent cuck.

(((They))) demonized working under a singular employer that included free room and board with you actually building a bond with in favor of being a faceless, uncaring cog in a machine that will replace you any moment you become an inconvenience and being a rent cuck. These are nice theories, but the right answer is that the military requisitioned them during World War II and trashed the living hell out of them. The exodus of the elite happened more recently than you think.
