Its like a Rolex, if I see one I just assume its fake. You have to spend something like $250k/year or something to be offered this. So even if its not fake, you are probably just using it for your business or something to qualify. What does it actually cost you then, because you'd spend the money anyway. I think a lambo would actually be more impressive because its almost impossible to fake, and its truly a waste of money. Its was more impressive to waste like $250k compared to just having $250k you used to buy something even if it was input costs for goods you sold for like $1k profit.

As a european the whole concept evades me. We have nothing but debit cards here.
Credit score isn't a thing, the bank employee does a simulation based on your current revenues and past depenses.
You have cashback with online crypto cards now (3-4% btw, not merely 1%) and they're free if you keep at least X money in the bank. Crypto banks back all deposits up to 100k€ in Europe btw, legal obligation.
As for rewards we call those fidelity cards and they're not linked to banks at all.
I have a frequent flyer card that I don't pay at all and that gets me lounges, booze and frer flights every 6 months or so.

You just have to make sure you withdraw from an ATM that allows you to use your own bank for conversion. Like withdraw in the foreign currency, not dollars, otherwise they fuck you on the rate. If you withdraw in the foreign currency then your bank does the conversion at usually really good rate - same rate your card would get.

And in countries with totally broken financial systems them USD cash works in most tourist areas.

>> No.54735500

If you're getting $1500 of value off 150k amex points you're fucking up.

Use ANA points to Japan bruh. You can find last-minute roundtrip flat bed business class SFO-NRT for like 70k points+$500 fee. You can search using seats.aero or whatever points search engine you want. Those tickets are normally like 5 grand cash.

>> No.54735551

>>54735500
I have amex and have banked 100k points because it seems to daunting to figure out how to do all this shit. I have to request my vacation for the next year in December so figuring out how to find some last minute deal is impossible. I was going to use the points on a flight to Hawaii during summer

>> No.54735615

For example there are seats from 4/30 returning on 5/11 for lie flat business from SFO to NRT/HND. Google Flights is quoting over $14,000 for that flight. For points it is high season (you just missed low season) so it is 85,000 points transferred from amex to ana + like $600 fee in fuel surcharge (I forget the exact amount). Points are good for shit like this. Cashback is a trick to keep you from getting the crazy sick deals.

ANA business gives you a flat bed you can sleep in and a fucking kaieseki Japanese meal in the sky. After churning amex go for the Venture X and play this same game (you can book ANA using Virgin Atlantic).

>> No.54735644

>>54735500

Hawaii likely isn't worth it in business. If you're willing to do economy see if there is availability for amex to Turkish Airlines (flying United planes). It'll be stupid cheap that way if there's availability. You can google Turkish Hawaii points for how to do it. Business won't be available, ignore what the blogs say about business class to Hawaii using Turkish.

If you want business over the summer you're going to have to book last minute and try American Airlines transfer booking Hawaiian Airlines. Probably a mediocre deal.

>>54735615
I never heard about this before and now im kinda sad I spent so much on airfare lol. Thanks this was really helpful. It does suck however for people who cant really leave spur of the moment to another country. the other downside is finding accommodations if you get your tickets too last minute.

>> No.54735913

>>54735799
If you're planning a trip far in advance IMO the best deal is the Star Alliance Round The World using ANA points for business class. Ironically you'll unlikely be able to fly on ANA flights using this method (you'll likely be doing Singapore or Asiana for the Asia segment since ANA only releases most of their seats last minute) and it is a LOT of work to do.

The second option would be to book the ANA flight 1 year in advance (they release 2 or 4 seats in advance every day for flights 1 year out), you need to check plebbit for some guides on how to do it, its kind of tricky and involves setting your location as Japan.

>>54735820
Yeah AMEX plat isn't worth it after the first year. Downgrade to gold (use it for groceries/restaurants) and get the Venture X card.
