Entertaining and encouraging said crypto fags is even gayer

Get the general back on track to success and post a cool fact about PMs, whether it be a historical fact or obscure chemical usage
I'll start with a better known but fun one: The small fireworks that pop when you throw them at the ground hard, often called "Party Snaps" or "poppers" actually use just a little silver for the reaction to work! And yes, the silver CAN be refined out of them, albeit in a very time consuming and inefficient manner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vltBwXncjCI

If you go to a meetup, bring a scale, a neodymium magnet, dial calipers (digital battery ones are for jews, niggers, and faggots), and some brief knowledge on the sizing and dimensions of the coins. Flipping the coins and familiarizing thyself with the ping noise of ringing silver helps quite a bit. Get a 90% kennedy, a 40%, and a cupronickel one as a sort of a calibration set for your ears. true facts but that can be said of anything. Wampum or cocoa beans or really anything

only reason to use metals was tradition, and that tradition is forgotten now just like wampum and cocoa beans and other moneys. Last people to use metals as money are all dying off fast, probably won't survive any apocalypse scenario, and won't be doing a lot of trading if they do make it.

The kiked were gassed but it was to delouse them on account that they would purposely not bathe out of spite. Also checked. The holocaust is propaganda and the jews print out a lot of paper. What I do not understand is that if they are so eager to roll out CBDC in the west, why not support it with gold?
I'm certain that even the BRICs are planning to issue CBDCs for their new alternative to the U.S. dollar, which they probably will be backed by commodities like PMs and oil.

So why is the West so obstinate and insistent on creating a new shitcoin which continues to be supported by massive amounts of debt. Certainly since the US secured 8T of gold reserves creating a sustainable digital version of the USD would be easy, wouldn't it?

>I don't use sawdust or anything like that to help purify the pour. It helps pull impurities out between the mold and the metal?

Thanks for responding, I don't have a good grasp on it myself and am trying to figure it out, but as I understand the carbon sources bind to the oxygen and reduce metal oxides back to pure metal, and when stirred around in the molten batch might bind to or draw out impurities which can then be skimmed off. I've read that molten tin likes to oxidize in air and continually forms a meddlesome oxide rind so maybe having a layer of charcoal dust floating on top would prevent that? Using a ladle with a perforated bar behind the pour spout which holds back the crud floating on the surface would be good for specific small casting projects but isn't efficient for bulk ingot pouring. Since I haven't figured it out I've only made a few 1/2 kilo bars and keep the bulk of my pewter as-is.

They were minting physical gold and silver coins as well as gold promissory notes so in a way, they did kind of abolish "currency" in this period in favor of hard money until they axed bimetallism in 1931 for a gold standard and melted the silver down to finance the five year plans.

Mold powders are dumped on top of molten metal to draw more impurities out and also insulate the metal so it doesn't cool in a concave fashion. Mineral oil is sometimes mixed with silica and other refractories in a mold as a release agent, though you'd think the flash point would be too low, it doesn't seem to burn off at 2000F. A big paper arm wrestling battle is unfolding. And JPM fear being on the wrong side of the trade, just like in July 2020, which costed them billions USD back then, and a huge portion of their silver deposit ever since.

Also, quietly posted by Reuters today : admission we are consooming much more silver than we produce, and that the reserves are growing very, VERY thin.
>2021 : 51Moz undersupply
>2022 : 241Moz undersupply
>2023 projection : 142Moz undersupply (protip : it will be much worse than that)

Per the article, 2 last years deficit in silver wiped out cumulative surplus from the ENTIRE previous decade of production. Back when the demand was very low on the investment side.

How much more silver is left in the reserves? They surely can't continue to pull 200Moz out of their hat every year for much longer. Not when the comex is already down -77%.

I believe Borax is used for gold and silver melting to coagulate slag. I would venture it's safe to use for pewter and tin as well, although I haven't tried it myself.

>>54654869
I believe that same borax would help with the impurities you're talking about. I've used a dremel to remove the sharp edges and some crud from my poured 'items'. The biggest thing I've run into is pockets and tunnels forming on the mold side of the pour. I'm not sure if it's some sort of coating forcing its way up through the metal as it cools creating the tunnel, or if it's just a general impurity with the density of the metal I'm pouring. My setup is backyard af. A propane grill, a cast iron skillet and baking molds. I'd like to test the waters with flea markets to see what I could sell my shaped pours for.

That said, even tho not as impressive, i too managed to score yesterday.
I bought this 1kg plate from 1775 for 400€. The seller is seething to no end it's hilarious. He sent me half a dozen messages during the night trying to convince me to cancel the purchase.

Long story short, this nigger put it on sale a first time 2 weeks ago, with an undisclosed floor. Since this cretin didn't put any description and the entire title consisted of "plate 18th", ofc nobody noticed it but me and another dude, and the price floor didn't meet.
Told him to contact me if he ever wanted to sell it directly to me. He does, and we agree on 600€.

Then a day later he contact me back and say that finally it will be 700€, and that i better hurry otherwise he will pump the price by a hundo every day. I kek and tell him to suck a big one.

He then put back the plate on sale last week, same non-description, 400€ starting price. I won it for 401€ kek.
He then has the gal to send me a first message telling me that finally he agree on the 600€ we previously agreed upon lol. What a fucking piece of boomer kike shit. I say fuck off send me my shit or i come take it myself. Then he proceed to pilpul and boohoo all night long about his great aunt who is sick and needs the monies for pills. Can't wait to destroy him in the evaluation.

I've yet to determine the coat of arms, but apparently this plate was previously exposed in Paris' BHV, a luxe shop for parisian bourgeois.

You're welcome and the other poster is correct about borax. I wish I had more info but I'm not an engineer and haven't worked in any metals industry for quite a while. If you're only melting a few pounds at a time and it's all recovered stuff (already been refined at least once) I assume common mold powder ingredients like borax would work just fine. There can't be that much slag forming on a tiny crucible or ladle of remelted anything really. What are you using to melt? If you haven't looked into it, a miniature arc melter can be made from an old microwave and some welding "gouging rods" for next to nothing. It's probably much better than propane torches or whatever people use at home.

Id change? Collectables are just that; collectable. They're valuable in a society with all of it's basic needs fully met. Silver and gold have existed as a monetary measurement in every western society for several thousand years. It doesn't t

Displayed prices still are ridiculous, but liquidity is near zero nowaday, only way to unload a big card fast is for you to undercut by 20% the cheapest seller.

Time to unload was 2020, right after the stimmy craze. Now ppl are beyond broke, their food is 50% more expensive and their mortgage's interest is 5x what it was last decade. But their salary didn't move.

Collectable cardboard and vidya meme is over, now is time for PMs and antique to take the lead.

Thanks guys, for silver I use an electric furnace and borax but for pewter I too have just used a propane burner and melted in a stainless cooking pot. At first I made the mistake of stirring the batch and skimming dross with an old silverplated tablespoon, only a bit too late did I realize that the pewter was dissolving the spoon lmao. Makes sense in retrospect that it would eat up the copper alloy base metal spoon but I didn't expect it at such a low temp of only 450-500 Fahrenheit. I'll experiment but as I understand borax doesn't melt at such low temps, hopefully it would still draw out impurities and dirt in the pewter though.

Lol no, generational nostalgia collectibles only hold value as long as the people to whom the items were meaningful are alive and actively collecting. Your pleb consoomer video games are exactly the same as stamps, Shirley Temple paraphernalia, Elvis dolls, Roy Rogers lunchboxes and baseball cards, and they're only slightly better than contrived collectibles like Beanie Babies. Best case, the value will plummet when the people who grew up with and actually care about the shit start dying off, but realistically you will see the market tank much sooner when more people start selling than there are buyers still in the market. That is already happening and will accelerate as more people face economic hardship. Fine art, PMs, and quality antiques/antiquities are far more robust and long-lived investments with a much broader base of interest and far deeper-pocketed buyers than your 8-bit funko-pops will ever enjoy. Lurk and observe trends for 20 more years before posting again and you'll see that I'm right.

He said he will, but considering how heated our convos were i'm not too optimistic either. But from what i understood from his beyond broken french, it smells super shady. Apparently he's selling it on behalf of an old relative who needs cash, but he isn't the owner himself... Idk if it's stolen or elder abuse, but something aint right. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a home nurse shitskin cleaning the house of a patient (old demented rich boomer most likely), an item at a time.

Hoarding precious metals for the economic collapse is about as useful as hoarding candy for the zombie apocalypse. Sure, it might make you feel better for a little while, but eventually, you'll realise that you can't eat gold and silver, and you'll be left with a bunch of shiny rocks while everyone else is out there trading goods and services for the things they actually need. So, unless you're planning on fashioning a suit of armour out of your PMs to fight off the economic collapse, you might want to reconsider your hoarding strategy. Goodwill is one of several common "charity shops" or "thrift stores" in the USA where people donate their pre-owned/used clothing, accessories (including jewelry), furniture, books, music, games, movies and general household and kitchen items for the store to sort through and sell, the profits then go to help needy poorfags. I did a quick search and it seems like you have thrift stores in France, Emmaüs and Croix Rouge sound similar to our own thrift/second-hand stores. Be aware that most stores are pretty good at screening out good stuff to sell at high prices online but some shops are goldmines full of great deals, it might take a little while for you to learn which stores are best.
