I joined a pool then found out you can earn more if you nominate yourself, so I left the pool but have to wait 27 days until 1038 era, I earn no rewards and my DOT is in limbo until that era comes

That's not true, pools earn on average the same, depending on the commission rates of their nominations. They just don't auto compound, so their rewards are displayed as APR rather than APY, even though you can manually claim and restake to compound whenever you feel like it. Soon pools will have auto compounding as an option too so the distinction between pooling and direct nominating will be even smaller.

Idk, I have 122 of it just because the staking returns are so saucy. It's been performing decently, though Link and Ada have impressed me more with their performance. Polygon is my biggest disappointment.
