Yeah it's tough for britbongs, there is lots of competition for scrap over there. The batches I've purchased and had shipped over to the USA were freshly listed buy-it-now deals priced way under melt value i gobbled up fast, seems hard to score via normal auction format listings for bongs over there.

Anyway the refinery just called and they said my 7x 1/10th oz gold rounds are ready for pickup, I gave them only about 2/3rds of an ounce of gold so I have to pay $154 to cover the extra gold and refining/manufacturing fees, which brings the total cost to around $420 for the 7 smolgolbs. I'll pick them up next week and bring another juicy load of sterling scrap for them to process, might take months for them to finish though they seem really busy lately.

After reading some materials concerning the Great Melt of the 80s and 2011, i'm flabbergasted so much stuff still survived to this day. For the 80s it's understandable, as internet wasn't around yet, it probably was harder to find scrap, but back in 2011 ebay already was well established...
From all my purchases, i can say with confidence that not once i bought silver items who were crafted after the 60s, and after doing some digging, i'd say that no more than half a dozen well-reknowed silversmiths still propose newly casted complete sets nationwide here. That's depressingly low. Even the richest of the richfags buy stainless steel as tableware it seems nowaday.

If I need to sell gold for fiat I think it would be easier to sell a sovereign or a fractional than an entire Oz. If I have Sovereigns I can sell one and not be out of gold. I can also accumulate sovereigns faster than ounces. The premium on a sovereign vs an Oz isn't offensively bad either. I want to get 4 sovereigns before I get a whole Oz.

Most sovereigns post 1932 will be BU as they weren't circulated but buying random quality you have a chance of getting a vicky or edward that could be worn/dinged/have blemishes. Though you'll most likely just end up with a modern QE2 sov. If you don't like the modern colour or don't want to risk a shitty quality older sov I'd just pay a bit more for the BU desu. 57-68 sovereigns are very nice.
