What's the consensus on melting down copper into ingots? My work has me tossing out decent amounts of copper wire/old propane line on occasion and I feel like it's just all going to waste. IDK how easy it is to melt your own metals though, or if copper is like aluminum where there's like 40 different grades of it. 15 seconds on Google tells me you can make a small furnace for next to nothing if you're thrifty, but I'd rather just spend 200-300$ on a small all-in-one smelter, if those even exist at that price point. That way I can melt down other small things, too.

Copper ingots sell on ebay in the neighborhood to $20/lb avdp. If you have access to very low cost Cu and the means by which to melt it and create bars, you'd probably make out very well doing so. It would be especially marketable if you polished and stamped the bars with the proper weight and purity.

You can see that the lower "A" hallmark is dirty with gunk obscuring the smaller-font writing below, maybe you can clean it out with a sharp wood skewer or toothpick and get a more clear view of what is written there? The idea was to start scrapping metal in general since we go through a lot of aluminum and whatnot. I just figured it would be easier to store copper as ingots as opposed to loose wire and bits of pipe and whatnot scattered about in boxes. Plus this way I know I'm not getting shafted weight wise. I just fished through the junk 800 at my local, specifically looking for some Canadian small change. Came away with a 1966 dollar coin, two Victoria quarters, a Victoria 5 cent (very worn, so tiny, never seen one in person), three King Eddie quarters, a King George (best out of all Canadian obverse designs, in my opinion) several dimes, a young Liz 1953, and a George VI 1937.
I also found an 1888 Victoria quarter in there buuut of course the guy went through to date everything relative to ebay. Sad. It would've been worth about $40 to $50 USD in the condition it was in.

Greetings fellow metalsisters. It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the end of my project to fill a US Mint box to the brim with Constitutional, a little under half full. I was scooping up as many halves as I could a couple months ago at 18.5x, but now I can't find even quarters for less than 23x and I can't make myself bite the bullet. That probably seems laughable to those who were stacking junk for less than spot, but I've kind of gotten used to 20x being the minimum in my mind

On top of that, my LCS is completely wiped out on inventory, so I can't stack more local even if I wanted to. They're basically down to numismatics, and this is a fairly big store. I'm used to walking in, sorting through the cull Morgans for a few choice samples, and asking for a couple tubes of mercs to finish me off. This was the first time in years that they had to turn me down, because all they had were rosies, and I'm not infecting my box with communists.

Also added 20 Canadiastan dollars for 17.6x, but those are staying safely stored in their containment tube.

The correct way to view investments is to seperate your cash, savings, investments but then also think of precious metals as "wealth". In these precarious times when the entire planet is overleveraged you need to be prioritizing your physical assets.This is not the 1990s where we are in the middle of maxing out the credit card. We are at the saturation point where we are desperately trying to "roll over" our balances and refinance and double down on double mortgages our houses just to keep our heads above water.
I still toss money at speculative investments but that is solely in service of me being able to lock in even MORE precious metals. Gotta spend money to make money.

I get that it's a joke, but...
Depends on the price per pound. Keep in mind in the US that the maximum load a truck can carry without a special permit is 45,000 lbs, or 80,000 including the tractor/trailer. So mass/cost means if you can buy it for less than $1.11/lb, you might have difficulty moving it. At $4/lb (spot) that would be 12,500 lbs - not a problem.
Then there's unloading. Loading is on the shipper, so no problem there. But when the truck gets to you, you probably have to unload it yourself. Unloading is not the trucker's responsibility. So you need some friends to unload 1,250 10-lb bars (or whatever form you bought).
Storing: again going on $4/lb, this would be a volume of about 633,000 cc, or a cube about 86cm (33.8 inches) on a side. Not terribly big.

Depends on the price per pound. Keep in mind in the US that the maximum load a truck can carry without a special permit is 45,000 lbs, or 80,000 including the tractor/trailer. So mass/cost means if you can buy it for less than $1.11/lb, you might have difficulty moving it. At $4/lb (spot) that would be 12,500 lbs - not a problem.
Then there's unloading. Loading is on the shipper, so no problem there. But when the truck gets to you, you probably have to unload it yourself. Unloading is not the trucker's responsibility. So you need some friends to unload 1,250 10-lb bars (or whatever form you bought).
Storing: again going on $4/lb, this would be a volume of about 633,000 cc, or a cube about 86cm (33.8 inches) on a side. Not terribly big.

There's only so much physical gold and silver. They're selling at a discount. How much is left in the vaults is a mystery because the numbers are cooked and god knows how many of the bars are fake. The only way to end this is to stop selling or letting the price go up. The latter is unworkable because when the music stops they would have to pay out a lot of cash so they will continue dumping the price right until it's over. I guess another option would be to make sure everyone is too poor and hungry to afford anything but that would not work for gold because central banks and other large investors are buying most of it.
