Socialism was pushed on the population from the top down, not the other way around. It resulted in becoming overly dependent on other economic blocs. Think of Russia in terms of energy and China in terms of resources.
The green agenda that was forced on the population wasted even more resources and led to even more dependencies by decomissioning nuclear power plants during an energy crisis.
