Dynasties weren't really a thing back then. It was all about adopting a suitable heir that could be a nephew or a more distant relative. Keep in mind Ancient Romans were still wary of their pseudo-legendary monarchy and looked down on oriental autocracies as well.

Rome specifically has a lot of parallels to modern day, most people still fail to take into account the sheer complexity of the current age compared to any other time in history. The game is being played the same way, but the rules and board have changed.

The only reason why the roman empire fared so well was because there wasn't a dynasty. Dynasties are weak.

Okay. Fine. We can do that.
Which Roman dynasty had more emperors than the Julio-Claudians.
None. There's your answer.
Augustus was a raving success in all things and a white man.

He listened to his wife and picked Tiberius. All the good prospects died too. The guys that replaced his dynasty copied everything he set up almost exactly. Various dynasties perpetuated the system he established for at least 5 centuries, and loosely through the present day/100 years ago. I'm sure he would be pleased with ambitious, smart, competent men usurping control from weak fools, that's how he got his start. The month of August, the title of Prince, Tsar, and Kaiser are all named after him. If he's watching from Hades, I very much doubt he gives a single fuck.

Commodus was actually hilariously based. But certainly not competent. But guess what? He was assassinated and replaced by the severans within a year, and they restored everything Augustus setup and the empire lasted another 285 years minimum.

I'd even consider the severan dynasty to be the beginning of the end. When they debased the currency to 50% silver or less that's the point of no return imo. Crisis of the third century happening on top of it was the final nail in the coffin. It's a miracle how they managed to survive much longer after that.

The history from Commudus death until Maximus Thrax in ~230 is pretty insane. They only officially start the "crisis of the third century" with Thrax. Rome died long before Alaric sacked the capital.

I saw a good pol schizo post the other day about Elagabalus. Basically he made Elagabal, aka Allah Ja'Baal into the head god of the pantheon and he got himself circumcised and stopped eating pork. The severans were all Carthaginian semites I believe and Baal was their patron god that they sacrificed babies to and right around the time of him taking power the whole thing starts to go to shit.
