Only Americans are interested in silver because it is tax exempt in burgerland but in most places there is a hefty VAT tax on it.

For example, in bongland gold is VAT exempt (as it has legal status as money) but silver has a 20% VAT. That cuts into your profits massively every time you purchase.

VAT doesn't matter much when it just increases the price floor. You get most of it back when you sell. Spread isn't much different between US and Yuropp. Gold is more popular for sure but cheap, low premium silver can be had if you look for old circulated coins (junk silver) from Austria, Germany, Sweden, etc.

No, they do pay more than spot.

Current 2023 Eagles can be sold for 28.65€ and bought for 27.89€. Spot is like 22€. That's a pretty tight spread.

as another mentioned, the bullion dealers here price in VAT, and with inflated prices of silver currently due to the disconnect between physical and paper silver, the price is roughly double spot price. It's the same with every dealer here, even with private sales listed on eBay.

My guess is they were trying to rip you off. Or it was long ago before the silver squeeze thing. But at the time premium over spot was likely also much lower. Unless you bought in at the worst time like 2020 or when it was that spot hit $30.

>> No.54224186

>>54224107
I never had this problem with gold btw. They spreads are much lower. It's just silver seems to have diverged much more from the paper price than gold and dealers here are slow to match the "inflated" value.

Part of the problem may be that absolutely everyone wants Britannias because those are the only silver that are CGT exempt which means supply is much lower and they can drive the price up more. Nobody buys junk silver over here. Spreads on gold are still excellent though.
