54166779 No.54166779 [Reply] [Original]

The older I've gotten, the more I realize that I don't actually want to be wealthy. Wealth just makes more problems than I realize, and owning a lot of fancy shit I rarely use seems like a big gay waste. I just want to have enough money to do a couple things I really enjoy, then spend whatever other money I have in trying to acquire more free time. You can always get more money, but you can't get more time, and that's what really matters in the end. If we only have one life to live, I don't want to spend too much of it doing work for sustenance. I'd like a career I enjoy, sure, but I value having time to spend at my leisure and with my friends and family. What does /biz/ think?

You are absolutely right in your perception, anon.
This is counterintuitive in our society, as you probably already understand, so you'll need a bit of courage to follow through because you'll feel some pressure to amass more money than you need

Poor people are the ones having the most children right now and only roughly 40% of men in history had children. The standards were also higher because the parents were the ones that arranged the marriages. I know plenty of people who have children and don't have seven figure houses. Your post is wrong on everything.

Some of the wealthiest people I know are also the most unhappy. Here's an example:

>guy I know cofounded a consultancy and retired early
>bought a bunch of properties to continue revenue stream and prevent wealth erosion
>most people he "knows" (aka business relations) often try to weasel his wealth and get favors from him
>constantly busy fixing shit and getting calls from gorillions of people about things 2 states away
>one kid going in and out of rehab because both parents are too fucking busy to parent
>rarely gets free moments to himself to enjoy what he has
>never truly satisfied with himself or what he has

The only real solace he has is that his family's future is pretty damn secure and he's pretty comfortable in his arrangement. The biggest perk is probably the fact he can live where he wants (sort of), but he's constantly tired and never feels truly relaxed. I think having fewer things to worry about and independent time are keys to happiness, not "having it all".

You've chosen the Isao Takahata path in life my friend. Nothing wrong with that, but don't spout the 'money creates more problems' bullshit cope. Everyone else in this thread is saying its cope and it is, but at the same time, leisure with friends and family is part of what makes life worth living. So you're half-wrong.

He's talking about happiness and he's half-wrong. It's ironic because money and friends are not so diverse interests. He posted this bullshit anecdote about some workaholic, but some people make JUST enough money to achieve independence and retire early to spend more time with friends and family.

>money creates more problems
Money creates different types of problems. Not saying it's bad to have a stable income or anything, but incredible wealth is not automatically fulfilling like so many retards here think it is. Money solves only corporeal problems, not metaphysical ones.

Without a certain amount of money you can't really do anything interesting with your life. I'm poor as fuck and can't really afford to do anything except for walk around my lame ass neighborhood. I spent some time out of a job and I'm a month behind on rent and covering with a credit card until I can pay it back.

People don't really respect you unless you're able to make money or have access to something they want like a good time. Wealth is great, but if I had a lot money, I would basically just retire, except I wouldn't have to live with a roommate, and I would deck out my house/apartment with desks, nice computers, dj equipment, probably a mini bar or something, a lot more books. Finally get a nice tailor made suit, some nice shoes. Definitely some nice old rosewood furniture or something.

I struggle with this.

If the goal is to alleviate suffering (in yourself as well as others), then that can be accomplished by becoming wealthy and allocating your wealth into generous endeavors.

We cant all just sit under a tree in permanent meditative bliss. Things still need to get done and we as normal people have responsibilities. Shirking responsibilities for meditative bliss seems like negative karma

>> No.54172457

>>54166779
Well yeah responsibility and time investment sucks.
Actually wanting to get into the (b)millionaire and old money elite cliques is retarded.
Most celebrities might be wealthy but are mentally damaged&cucked e.g. Will Smith and IG models are Dubai porta potties.

If you're an average guy and sane you want maximum time and wealth, minimum responsibilities and commitment.
