In what form does FDIC have it's $ for depositors? Do they have physical reserves? Or a variety of assets? Can't find the answer online but I'm dying to know if anyone can find a link?

In Canada the insurer is called the CDIC and they pretty much only cover chequing and savings accounts and GICs. You are only insured up to $100k. CDIC is funded by Canadian government bonds.

In Australia the insurer is the FCS. Australians are insured up to $250k and it does not cover Australian bank branches held in other countries or any accounts in non-Australian dollars (so USD accounts are not covered). Non-Australian residents in oz are covered though

what is the mood of the FDIC office like in the lead up to one of these bank closings? Are they all working intense overtime and crunching in the 24-48hrs prior, or is it just another week at the office where most people work there 9-5s (except at the end of the week they waltz down to the bank and slap an FDIC sticker on it)
