Copper bullion has seen gains in the last decade and is worth stacking. Platinum is likely the better third wheel to the gold and silver duality BUT if PMs really start to take off as hyperinflation sets in copper will see gains as well. Just sorted through my copper stack today and there is something magical about heavy hand poured bars.

Maybe. It's hard to know how to unload these unusual elements. Will coin dealers take it? Will manufacturers that use the stuff buy it from you? We don't yet know.
Copper though... Right now the stuff can be gotten for free, but it takes a lot of time to get it. Unloading it is easier, and depending on the form and forum, you can make a good profit in terms of percent. It's just right now the price is so low ($4/lb avdp), you need a lot of it to make headway.

Eligible contracts are paper silver. Registered contracts are the actual silver held by the COMEX. Notice the discrepancy? More people want silver than the COMEX can provide.

Lemme put this in some actual numbers (I'll be rounding them up; bite me). There is ~37.5 million ounces of silver in the vault right now. The Wall St. Silver subreddit (yeah, yeah, bear with me) has ~239,000 members. If this silver was divided equally among every member of the subreddit, each member would walk away with ~157 ozt silver each.

Just keep stacking silver. The bankers can't keep propping this up forever.

(Some more knowledgeable anon, please correct me if I'm wrong)

People sell their physical silver/gold to the COMEX for money. The COMEX then puts that physical metal into the vaults until someone steps up to buy.

The COMEX sells commodities through Futures Contracts. A contract is simple: people call them up, say "Hey, I wanna buy some commodity on this date at this price," and hammer out a contract with the COMEX. If/when the contract comes due, the COMEX must sell at the agreed upon price- even if they take a loss.

Example: The COMEX and I make a contract to sell me some 1000ozt silver at $20/ozt (so, $20,000). For the example's sake, let's say it was sold to them at $20,000. When the time comes to take possession of the silver, the spot price is now $25/ozt. Though the COMEX would like to sell me at $25,000, they must sell at the agreed upon $20,000.

Yeah, that's how you take delivery of the silver. You need a large truck and a good lawyer to pry it out of them, though.

Because of this, most investors don't want to buy physical gold and silver. They want to get rich quick. They do this by buying and selling these Futures Contracts (shortened to just "Futures.") You can see this on /biz/ sometimes. These traded Futures are the "eligible" contracts, meaning they haven't been cashed in yet.

The "registered" contracts are the ones people are cashing out, causing the reduction in silver in the vaults.

Remember, most investors (i.e., traders) just want a quick buck, so most of those eligible contracts will never be cashed out. This means, by manipulating the eligible contracts, the bankers can manipulate the actual price. The price of silver would skyrocket if the price was commensurate to the amount of physical silver.

Platinum is rarely used in industry after the dieselgate scandal (its still used though, usually used in encoders I think? We had platinum fingers in one if I remember right) but that might be about to change, more and more renewables energy sources are powering hydrogen production and those do use catalysts like platinum, it’s definitely worth investing in and is one of the rarest of the rares

Not a bad investment, aren’t those toxic tho? Silver/copper are still the ultimate industrial metals and more used than any other, when you buy those two think of it as you’ve just invested in solar, evs, and all the other industries that require them. I wouldn’t call platinum baby silver though, it’s rarer than gold and silver, and is completely different, whereas gold, copper, and silver are used for their conductive properties in industry platinum is used for its extreme resilience, it’s so resistant that ancient peoples used to throw it out because they lacked the technology to work with such a hard substance

Nice roman wage chart, I haven't seen that in months and didn't save it then, It looks quite accurate. As an interesting aside, during the Republican era they actually struck little ~1g silver sestertii which I have 2 examples of, while the more common Imperial brass sestertii were basically fiat currency with intrinsic value below face. Sestertii were last struck in the early 250s and during the catastrophic debasement in the latter 3rd century their metal value exceeded face so they got pulled from circulation just like good older denarii and hoards of sestertii buried during that time have been uncovered, probably stashed by plebs who had no meaningful access to silver. It'll be funny if hyperinflation hits and poors hoard and bury caches of copper lincoln cents or nickels to be discovered centuries from now.

All of that is more or less what I believe.
It's a just-in-case item, which if one has the presence of mind for such things, was likely last on the list next to water, food and shelter solutions.
Virtually nothing is guaranteed. You could lose your resources before getting to use them due to whatever emergency is prompting their use. Where your stash is could literally get bombed.
They used to think tsunamis had a maximum until they made discoveries worth coining the term mega tsunami. PMs are just one area of just-in-case items. But with the general upward trend of their price if nothing ever happens you'll at least be able to sell them later on.
Could you get unlucky and the price happens to dip when you're ready to sell as an older person? Sure. But similarly your just-in-case items can literally expire before any emergency happens.
Good on whoever can perfectly predict the future and know precisely what they need and when.

Typical vague college professor verbal diarrhea eluding to an answer, without ever actually giving one. Reminds me of most "scientific studies." They think their answer makes sense and their smarter (((cooperate bosses))) pat them on the back. Social norms reaffirm their ignorance. Anyone who wants genuine explanation for something, while having answers veiled by those in power, come up with likely explanations based on observable patterns, and are labeled as conspiracy theorist. >https://www.ebay.ca/itm/265181283298
something similar to this could work for you.
I've really been contemplating building a rocker, would be a neat little project, but if it's supposed to work and not look like ass, a handsaw and a tiny kitchen table aren't going to work out. Plus, I don't have space to store it. And I probably would need an external frame backpack to haul it, which would also run into the storage issue.
Highbanker would be just what I need (most of my spots don't have enough flow for a sluice to start with) but while you can do all kinds of stuff with/on rivers, pumping water from them is not among these things. Apparently, you can get a permit, but it's a long and expensive journey through the labyrinths of bureaucracy, so I won't bother.
So a small, cheap, ready to go sluice seemed like a good start to see if I can up my production a bit. If that sluice manages to pay for itself (lol, will be a while if I don't finde good spots closer to the source, plus >>53993828 didn't help, that like 0.05 cents gone forever), I can always upgrade, one way or the other.

Also, it'll probably take me some time to figure that thing out. Haven't yet found a good, concise "manual".
Panning and finding gold, you find plenty of good stuff on youtube, but sluices are a bit of a niche, it seems.
Dan Hurd did quite a lot of good educational stuff before he became a full on e-thot, but nothing on sluices.
Vo Gus has some stuff, but he mostly uses dream mats, which work a bit different.
Two Toes has some good stuff, but he's using classic riffles + miners moss, which is also a tad different from what I have, plus, he's often

a rocker doesnt need to look good, all it has to do is catch gold. Some of my earliest ones were built from cast off wood core boxes from the mine i was working at. You dont need to over think or over build, a riffle trap, some carpet and a slight gradient is all you need to catch gold particles in any sluice setup. You could also go the route of using a sluice out of the water and use a dipper stick to feed water in. Its back breaking but it works.
>>54000260
Unfortunately stream sluices are technically illegal in BC, thats why dan doesnt do videos on them, he focuses on highbankers mostly. From your video, i can see you have a great flow and the sluice mat is working nearly perfectly. If your still having issues though with angle and flow, look into buying a set of legs / a sluice stand for it.

>Unfortunately stream sluices are technically illegal in BC, thats why dan doesnt do videos on them, he focuses on highbankers mostly.
Funny. So that's the opposite of my situation. He's got a lot of explanation about hand pumps (which, now that I think of it probably also are a no-no here, but I guess I can just feign ignorance on that, but an electrical pump is very obvious.
>From your video, i can see you have a great flow and the sluice mat is working nearly perfectly. If your still having issues though with angle and flow, look into buying a set of legs / a sluice stand for it.
I thought I need some more "boiling" for the sluice to work and my large riffles less than 80% filled.
The legs are on my to do list. I think I can just drill a few holes and put in some screws with wing nuts and have a strip of Al with a long hole in the middle, L profile at best, just gotta see if I can buy those L profiles somewhere that's not exclusively B2B.
And sure, I can easily build a rocker, but the compactness and built quality of the sluice is really appealing (pic related), plus, since I've used all my scrap wood for a diner table seat for my child, it'd probably be as expensive as the sluice…
But now that I think of it: I probably could jury rig some kind of contraption that turns my sluice into a rocker…

Somehow I forgot to finish that sentence:
>) so it's kinda weird that he doesn't mention that, but I guess since there's this >high and dry loophole for handpumps, it makes sense to use them where possible, whereas there is no loophole for sluices, besides the high banker, which in some way is a whole different beast.
Guess the whiskey I'm sipping against my sore throat is kicking in. Probably call it a night soon.

can you get a closer shot of your riffles? how agressive is your mat? any idea on the brand? I use Gold Owl matting in my highbanker for example, it often looks packed up when operating but catches 99% of heavies.

Also, consider a land sluice setup like pic related, i can draw up a diagram too if you want. How expensive is wood in your area? I get everything for nearly free as cast off from work or from local saw mills.

Hard to say how agressive it is, It's your standard "modern" rubber mat. It's this one: https://goldenshark.pl/en/63-medium-sluice-m.html
>Also, consider a land sluice setup like pic related, i can draw up a diagram too if you want.
Thanks for the offer, but no need.
I should have some blueprints somewhere anyways. Probably thanks to you? Didn't you dump a bunch of links to old reports and various bureau of mines guides for folks trying their luck in the Yukon or California gold fields a few years back?
>How expensive is wood in your area? I get everything for nearly free as cast off from work or from local saw mills.
OK, maybe I was a bit over dramatic, but I did some back of the envelope calculations a while ago and pure material was like a third of a bought sluice, and since I only have a hand saw, I didn't want to bother.

yep i have all sorts of documents and plans for sluices and different setups if your interested!

As for your mat and it plugging, how does your concentrate pan out? lots of heavy blacks or blonde sands? The only thing i could recommend is a tiny bit more angle and flow, you have the "V" at the top which is perfect, but you need a little more velocity to clear your riffles. Your mat looks very similar to what i use, so dont worry too much, its catching everything even if its a bit gummed up.

If you have any "modern" stuff (or links to that), I'd be interested. I had a cursory look for modern scientific papers on this topic, but seems like not much is done. But don't stress over it! Already got a lot of good info from you. The old stuff I already have a lot (If I ever need a 100% original long tom, I know how to do it).
>As for your mat and it plugging, how does your concentrate pan out? lots of heavy blacks or blonde sands?
Mostly red stuff (i.e. garnets). I rarely get noteable black sand, but I got a few neat large-ish magnetite or heamatite chunks out of it, and it caught some small stainless steel wire in the top riffles, so it's probably not totally off, but I feel I need some more water. lot of stuff just slides over it, it seems.

I mean, who else but the shop would believe it was an error from the mint and then pay extra for it, right?
Not that they were unreasonable, but me calling them ASAP, having a receipt and dealing with the same people I bought from was probably why I got it replaced.
Guy I dealt with, very friendly and all, told me the manager was wondering if I was for real and he had to tell him there's no way someone would come down to the shop to try and rip them off for a Maple that would only fetch a bit more as bother were still 1 oz silver.

Alright I did some more reading up on this (still a greenhorn really) but I have to wonder who would believe me if I wasn't dealing with the LCS I bought the stuff from. Nothing at all indicates it's from a mint as opposed to someone making their own stuff. It'd be one thing if there was a tamper-proof sticker but as far as I know Maples don't get that, though, that could be changing this year if footage I've seen of the smilodon tubes is any indication. That said, I bought 2023 maples and I haven't seen evidence of their tubes having one of those stickers that go over the cap. Still, interesting to read up on briefly.

yep this is what i use!
https://www.tenorex.ca/products/mothersucker-prospector

I hook it up to a simple header box on an inner tube, and just suck up obvious cracks or fissures close to shore. I use it more to remove overburden slimes or silt than to actually mine with, I use my crevasse tools to pull the material that has the gold out. The only down fall of these tools is they "push" a jet of water out the end when you go for your next "pull" of material, so anything under the tool end gets blasted and can get sent down stream. Its best to have a guy in a snorkel watching the tool tip, funneling material in, who can pick any bigger flakes up before you suck them up.

It probably had a formed "rim", which would have been recognizable/identifiable to experts. It's something I would have submitted to a coin grading and slabbing service.
>Planchet rimming is an operation used to make blanks a little smaller to allow them to drop by gravity into the collar before being struck. It helps smooth the surfaces of nicks and grooves, evenly distributes the metal for a proper strike, and creates the upset edge around the outside face of the coin.

I doubt you'll ever see another but it would be cool if you did.

Seems like they're a bit too abundant even if I could prove them to be from the RCM. I would love to have gotten a Maple that was missing the Queen's face on the other side just for the visual alone.
>misstrike
Clever little tactic from a certain point of view. Another thing I learned is that the LCS doesn't test each and every round which I think is due to being partners with the RCM. That might have changed after what happened. I intend to call them just to ask, though, I did have them test my coins and they checked out. I had figured it might be a thing used to test for weight and other aspects that could afford to be roughed up and dropped.

Same logic as collecting a graded slick set, slick coins are far from rare but a graded set of them is very rare since they are so common and worthless they don't get graded.
