They were the more expensive higher quality pizza option. This was back when family's would go out once a month to eat out. They also used to innovate a lot with their toppings and flavors. They sat on top of the market and eventually got lazy. Eventually they lost that edge since people eventually didnt want an "experience" going out to eat, they just wanted cheap pepperoni pizza delivered to their doorstep.
I never really liked it all that much since the crust was made with even more salt and oil than the toppings so they whole thing just tasted like overkill.

I was actually a pizza hut manager in the golden years up until it went to hell. What went wrong is the bread was specially made in the store, the sauce was tomato canned. The cheese was delivered fresh. When I left, all the ingredients were delivered frozen, including pre made dough. Pizza hut sucks because it's basically 3d printed.

They pivoted way too late from the sit-down dining model with an arcade and salad bar (they used to be the largest purchaser of Kale on the planet for those salad bars before it became the hot new leafy green to put in fucking everything even when it's a terrible choice) to a predominantly delivery focused establishment, losing them a shitload of money and marketshare in the process, meaning they had to start skimping on ingredients and getting really cheap across the board. There's not many sit-down proper pizza huts left in the US anymore although they're starting to make a comeback because nostalgia makes people pay more for the same thing, but they all still use frozen pre-made dough (whereas even lil caesars makes their dough fresh, and I know all of this from working for both establishments for years when I was younger) and typically hire either people like me that are too stupid to know better or literal felons both pre and post incarceration. I wouldn't recommend eating pizza hut to anyone, the one I worked at didn't replace the batteries in the bathroom soap dispenser until half a year after I'd been there even though I spoke to the manager about it several times in my tenure. Also the only job I've worked where I got held at gunpoint in the process of doing said job. Just fucking make your own pizza at home, it's easy as shit to make and for the cost of a large pie with more than one topping on it from the hut you can make gourmet level pizza in your own kitchen. You don't even need a fancy oven, just get a pizza stone and leave that bitch in there while it preheats and you're good to go.
>>53919769
You can but you will pay out the ass for it, a large single topping from dominos or the hut is like 8-12$ depending on the market. A gourmet pizza from a reputable local establishment is going to run you 30-50$ depending on the market and how pretentious they are.

>> No.53920035

>>53920002
>30-50$
16” plain cheese pizza is still $16 bucks by me. It’s only if you order 7 toppings that it gets pricey. Still I remember when it was like 50¢ - $1 per slice with pies for $6-7 back in the early 2000’s

I seen't shit at both pizza hut and lil caesars that put me off of eating fastfood for a long time. I don't do it much anymore. There's a difference between hiring people with a shady past versus hiring shady people, same way there's a difference between burning a joint behind the dumpsters when you take the trash out versus rolling bowls of meth in the bathroom so you're still ready to fuck when you get off a 12 hour shift. I do agree on the being too lazy to make their own pizza part, there's frozen pizzas that compete with the quality of fastfood ones and all anyone has to do is preheat an oven and get a pizza stone if they want to be fancy.
>>53920035
Depends where you live. If you're in a major city, a proper pizza is going to be more than that just as a function of higher rent prices and not using dogshit ingredients. Unless they're making their own dough, slicing their own vegetables, prepping their own meats, and cooking it in a brick oven with the sauce they made from scratch it's not a gourmet pizza either.

>just give me the most expensive item on the menu that's no small cause for all long gone deals and price hikes
you can fit a whole pineapple in the topping jars they use. ah, but the anchovy order watches on with amusement as the befallen warriors of pizza toppings clash and battle for the remaining spotlight. sausage and mushroom, and pepperoni and jalapeno councils reign over the civil dwellings and laments of lesser toppings. and while we keep our most noble members of parliament to the vegetables, the pepperoni and sausage is not more than a vassal of true meat\'s power, for chicken and anchovy allow pizza to be beneath them.
the lands of red sauce over time became muddied by spicy and sweet parallels. the white sauces could never come to an agreement but no one could really tell them apart from the beginning because no man can withstand the overpowering savor of such rich, calorie-dense bourgeoisie. and along the coast, where the sun meats the red sea lies buffalo sauce, with barbecue sauce keeping vigil. they too know the importance of such balance between ingenuity and simplicity, never once sacrificing taste for proving one another less.
the cheese should always be met with respect, for it is the cheeses that keep the sauce and her toppings in perfect balance. the cheese is the natural force of this pizza world we inhabit. it is the wind in the sails of pepper flake fleets. without the cheese the pizza does not exist. like the crust of this pizza world that hosts such glorious battles of taste. and without the crust the cheese would remain, and this would be a cheesestick world.
your dipping sauces are the law and order of the topping and sauce world. diligent and patient, the dipping sauces may annex the sauce, and apprehend unruly toppings that test its will. pick the wrong sauce, and your perfect pizza just may get a patdown by some ranch or garlic butter that's had a bad day and wants to beat a little sausage just to let off some steam.

Considering that actual whole food isn’t even that expensive if you order it in bulk from a local food service warehouse, it’s kind of unforgivable when you use cheap goyparts to make your slop and serve it to people. There are food trucks out there that do this (order real food), sell it for roughly the same price as a Pizza Hut or Domino’s and make a killing. It’s when they decide they want a brick and mortar store front when it goes downhill.
