Does anyone invest in wines, watches, rare coins, rare books, Beanie Babies or other collectibles?

>> No.53804838

wines are a great 50+ year investment. When you are old you'll cope by enjoying what you saved.

I have a bottle of brandy that’s worth a bit over 1k. It was sitting in my grandmamas closet her whole life. Whe she died my dad took it. When my dad died it was sitting in his closet. Probably when I die someone will find it in my closet.

I wouldn’t even know how to sell it if I wanted to. I would if it was worth more then 10k but for 1k eh

If it's any consolation, it likely tastes like vinegar by now. The organic components of wine break down over time ("peak" years will vary based on the growing season, varietal, and region, but is usually around 30 years).

It’s brandy, not wine. What little I have researched shows that it doesn’t really go bad unless the cork gets ruined. Judging from the cork I think it’s ok

I have 5k cash in my safe right next to that bottle of brandy. I like to have cash on hand in case I ever need it for an emergency. I have literally never used it. Going through the hassle of selling it for 1k really doesn’t seem worth it. I think I would like to pass it to my kids if I have them when I die. Maybe have some sort of heirloom or family treasure

i collect tarot cards. i never thought about them as investments until i was looking on a tarot nerd site and saw that people are paying $150-200 for decks i got for $30-40. i still won't sell them but it got me thinking, if you get in early on limited edition decks by respected companies you could pay for one by buying 3-4 extra and selling them after a year or two when all the limited edition ones are sold out

my dad did something similar with watches. i think it's Swatch, but some company did a promotion with limited edition watches and he was able to get about 10 by going to a certain store at a certain time or something, and then sold them at a 5x markup

i'd love to get into the rare books trade, not so much to make money but just because i'm an obsessive book hoarder and love books as objects. i'm especially interested in older occult texts and rare/out of print conspiracy books, the wackier the better. if i ever "make it" i will have a secondhand book store with a printing press attached to it in a sleepy small town

Recently learned that my water distiller may be used to distill wine and that is what brandy is. Should I turn store wine into brandy and drink it? What is the benefit of brandy over wine?

>benefit of brandy over wine
Because liquor > wine sometimes. Wine you don't like? Brandy. Jug of table red? Fruit brandy.
Is also used for cooking delicious meals and desserts.

Yes but invest in collectibles that haven’t peaked. Things that have peaked, funko, Lego, Nintendo, Pokémon, magic etc. it’s difficult to even find fair market value for things. Everything is overpriced.

I have a ton of baseball cards from the 1980's a lot of rookies of hall of famers. Only problem is you need to get the cards "graded" from 1-10 to really establish true value. Grading a card costs about $25 each. A lot of these cards if they're not at least a 9 are worth less than $10 bucks. If they're a 9+ they're worth a few hundred. They look good to my eye but that doesn't mean anything. So when I have some extra cash I'll waste the money to get them graded.

Also to contribute to thread, I'd suggest cast iron (master race) cookware collecting.

Price rises better than PM but that faggot general won't talk to me about it

Imagine having a storage unit with 50 cast iron (master race) dutch ovens in it when the grid goes down

gonna hold em till they start hitting peak and then sell most, keep a couple for myself

I've taken a cast iron (master race) skillet and made shitty clay strips. Wasn't the best but I'd do it again

Everyone thinks they're collectible so there's a shitload of them available and nobody ever throws them away.

You can buy them online for a grand or so. I don’t think I would sell it unless it was worth substantially more money.
