In my opinion yes, the USA has far more opportunity, people who are in the USA live life on easy mode. However the main problem of the British is that they are all cynical, pessimistic, terminally hopeless. A brit will never take a chance, or seek out a new opportunity. I put it down to a complete disintegration of sophisticated civil discourse, aided in large part by the corporate capture of the media. Nothing is argued in good faith, it's always bullshit meant to deflect from the real point, made to be as inflammatory as possible as everything hinges on it's immediate emotional impact. This serves a virtuous circle for the media, firstly it makes money - because it results in engaged audiences (angry people), but it also makes them completely retarded and allows the media to control national sentiment. But the ultimate result is a population where no one has a holistic view of history, any sense of economic fluency or vision of a (politically) plausible alternative. It's prejudice fuelled by conspiracy (or just nonsense) all the way down, and nothing intelligent can develop from a democracy where no one can ever be informed.

For instance, we used to value the imput of experts - logically - the people we delegate responsibility for specialising their knowledge so we don't have to, but now completely disregard them for a procession of reactionary pundits that obliterate nuance, retread tired old arguments that have been regurgitated for 30+ years and bully their opinions onto the nation so no real solution can ever find consensus. All the while we stagnate and become poorer, opportunity cost washes us by, and our national wealth is syphoned off into tax havens.
