College education is actually really important and can teach you very valuable knowledge. The problem is that most people are there to get a college degree, not to learn. Many students just want to pass the tests and get the degree, they don't actually want to learn anything. So even though you are in college, it doesn't mean you are learning. Those are crucial skill for human beings to have a good life. So college is not just a "meme", but it has important functionality for human beings.

At least the US has some protection with "tiered" colleges and high cost.
In continental Europe were college is free and there is little qualitative difference between schools, the entire education is dragged down as the teachers tend to gravitate toward the middle of the class.
Specifically in softer subjects, getting a philosophy degree is on paper kind of worthless, but can it be super worthy, depending on what you take away from it. Studying philosophy in a class were half the students are sub 100 IQ, and having those people dominant the discussion in class, it's guaranteed to be useless.
