Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized P2P privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and fungible, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- In other words, the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a user willingly providing a view key.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptocurrencies. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of transactions increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier to entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward gradually approached 0.6 XMR in June 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

START MINING IN P2POOL
>START MINING IN P2POOL
START MINING IN P2POOL
>START MINING IN P2POOL

P2Pool combines the advantages of pool and solo mining; you still fully control your Monero node and what it mines, but you get frequent payouts like on a regular pool.

P2Pool has no central server that can be shut down/blocked because it uses a separate blockchain to merge mine with Monero. There's no pool admin that can control what your hashrate is used for or decide who can mine on the pool and who can't. It's permissionless!

Decentralized pool mining (P2Pool) is pretty much the ultimate way to secure a PoW coin against 51% attacks. Once P2Pool reaches & maintains 51%+ of the total network hashrate, Monero will be essentially invulnerable to such attacks.

Although many inexperienced miners think that bigger pools give better profits, this is absolutely NOT the case. Your profits in the long run depend ONLY on your hashrate, NOT on the pool's hashrate.

>YOU CAN NOW MINE IN P2POOL FASTER & EASIER THAN EVER BEFORE WITH THE GUPAX GUI. USES TRUSTED REMOTE NODES BY DEFAULT!!!!

1. Download the *bundled* version of Gupax for your OS here: https://gupax.io/downloads/
2. Extract somewhere (Desktop, Documents, etc)
3. Launch Gupax
4. Input your Monero address in the [P2Pool] tab. USE A SEPARATE MINING-ONLY WALLET!
5. Select a Community Monero Node that you trust, although you can and should run your own node if possible.
6. Start P2Pool
7. Start XMRig

VIDEO GUIDE: https://gupax.io/guide/

You are now mining to your own instance of P2Pool, welcome to the world of decentralized peer-to-peer mining!

>NOTE THAT DUE TO BOTNET SHENANIGANS XMRIG IS AUTO-FLAGGED AS MALWARE BY MOST ANTI-VIRUSES, SO DON'T FREAK OUT!!!

START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
>START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
>START RUNNING AN I2P NODE

>What is I2P?

I2P is an anonymized P2P overlay network akin to the Tor network but with several key advantages over it. I2P is now replacing Tor as the go-to darknet and will play a pivotal role in growing the Monerocentric economy.

>Why should I care? Why should I run a node?

Increasing shadow economy adoption and the proliferation of an XMR-only standard are what guarantee that XMR will have a floor and won't also crash to zero when the Crypto Casino finally implodes. XMR's long-term outlook is therefore *strongly* correlated with the darknet, you may have already noticed how the number of TXs begins to drop whenever the glowies attack & cripple the Tor network, which underscores just how critical it is that the darknet wins this war against the State. Make no mistake: if the darknet is allowed to die XMR will take a devastating hit as well.

So by running an I2P node you are helping to make the network Monero thrives in that much more robust while also enraging glowies in the process. Win-win!

>OK, but how difficult is it? Do I have to store GBs worth of data like when running an XMR node?

It is literally as easy as installing an Android app and no, there are no storage requirements, the node only consumes some bandwidth.

>Cool, I'm sold. What do?

If you have no interest in browsing the darknet yourself then the simplest solution is to install & run the I2Pd Android app on any compatible (Android 4.1+) device, ideally a TV box since they don't require recharging and are permanently online. But any old phone or tablet is fine too. Make sure you activate "start on boot" in the settings.

Otherwise just install the appropriate desktop client and leave it running.

>No tail emission = Bitcoin is fucked

Right now, at the current hashrate, miners break even on energy expenses at a BTC price of $22K. Post 2024 halving, that break even point, at the current hashrate, goes up to $44K. If BTC does not go to $44K, miners will be unprofitable and hashrate will have to drop (miners going out of business) to reduce the cost of securing the network, also reducing the security.

If you know anything about the power of 2, you already know that things get very big, very fast. If we’re 3 halvings into 32 total halvings, then the estimated break even point for miners at current hashrate going into the last halving would be:

$22,000 * (2^27) = $2,952,790,016,000 per BTC

$2,952,790,016,000 per BTC * 21 Million total Bitcoin = $62,008,590,336,000,000,000 BTC Market Cap

The block rewards shrink so fast that after enough halvings Bitcoin would eventually require a $2.95 trillion price per Bitcoin and a $62 quintillion market cap to sustain the current cost of $7.15 billion/year.

Even if these numbers were somehow realistic, can you imagine securing a $62 quintillion market cap on only $7.15 billion/year of hashrate? LOL.

And that’s assuming energy costs do not increase at all over the next 120 years, which they will.

So basically BTC mining will eventually become so unprofitable the hashrate (network security) will shrivel up UNLESS it is subsidized by BTC transaction fees.

I am running some nodes. I had them turned off for some time but I am downloading them back. I just had a good idea, I was thinking of just getting multiple family and friends to start nodes, then use each other as peers for our nodes, start there after explaining how monero works and how good it is for privacy and stuff. Then soon after start doing things for each other like buying stuff from each other or hell even selling labor and services to each other for monero. I could have a network of peers whom I mostly know in person that I can trade either cash in person or barter with for monero. Mow a lawn, paint a house, for monero. Buy weed from a dispensary, with monero. Basically build a whole economy separate from the USD in small rural communities where people are sick of the fucking gubmint spying, prying and fucking with their money. I guess after I get good enough at setting up and configuring nodes to work optimally thru tor and i2p I could be the community node IT guy. Of course we’d not just be each other’s peers we’d diversify the peer group to branch outside your own network.

I have a hypothetical scenario for you all about moving crypto gains into physical precious metals.

>anon knows of a reputable bullion site based out of Hong Kong (official dealer for all government mints, etc.)
>anon has made many purchases from this site in the past
>anon notices that the crypto price is almost the same as the cash price
>anon reads that the site uses BitPay to accept payments in crypto
>anon learns that BitPay won't ask for KYC for paying a BitPay Invoice, so long as the purchase is valued at under $3,000 USD
>anon doesn't want to pay capital gains tax on spending crypto though
>anon considers moving crypto gains into an XMR wallet on a non-KYC exchange, converting the XMR to BTC, and then using the BTC to pay the BitPay Invoice from the Hong Kong-based business

What risk is there that BitPay would report the BTC transaction to the IRS, linking it to anon, thus prompting the IRS to ask for the receipts for the BTC purchase in order to establish the cost basis for the capital gains tax, which would then show it came from a crypto-to-crypto transaction, linking the purchase to the XMR wallet and all complex series of crypto-to-crypto transactions that came before this?

>do you think slavery will come back to being legal? I mean a good portion of the people in cities are slaves in the sense that they can't earn enough, can't exist without government handouts etc.
no, not really. those people are dependent on those social plans because those plan exist, if they wouldn't something else would fill the void.
if we left the tax system behind then that would probably mean less government interference in the market, leading to more wealth creation because of how competitive the markets would become. we just have to maintain a reasonable ratio between companies looking for workers and workers looking for work. i'm pretty sure people would be much better without social plans, taking away from people who work so they can give it to lazy fucks so the political parties can hold the voters hostage is the most fucked up system ever created.
the politicians take the money from us, then they see how much voters they can get by promising that money to certain groups in our society, those groups have no other option other than to vote for those politicians or else they "won't make it". but the whole reason those groups are "not making it" its because the politicians are taking the money away from them and from everyone while fucking the whole society in the process. it's a vicious circle and it has to burn and those fuckers deserve to be hanged.

So is it true or not that once enough transactions are done in monero versus the USA dollar that Jewish Money Masters will not be able to collect income tax and this will end the welfare queen handout system i.e the gibs?

won't the Jew Banksters fight tooth and nail once they realize they no longer have control over money. Once they realize they won't have endless handouts for the gib community?

Monero if it was being used by a majority of the people would really throw a monkey wrench in the Jewish Money Printing Bailout Bucks Endless Handouts charade to Niggers right? or wrong?

Could jews still give endless handouts to Niggers in an economy that totally functioned based off of Monero?

do you think slavery will come back to being legal? I mean a good portion of the people in cities are slaves in the sense that they can't earn enough, can't exist without government handouts etc. Will these people essentially become slaves to the new owner class? This is what I see happening. We have financial wage slavery now a days due to all the bailout bucks that have been created and handed out. Hard to know who is an actual business person and who is really a welfare queen masquerading as a person in business.

I think we are headed towards a radical change in society because our society is so noncompetitive and so easy to conquer

As far is restoral, hardware wallets have to perform some "special sauce" to arrive at an XMR seed. So the seed on a Ledger won't transfer to a Ledger as they both do it different ways. There are utilities that can perform that if needed though.

Whoa, checked.
>not sure what the love affair is with bitpay
Idk, it's just the only option when checking out with crypto. I'm concerned that if anon pays with BTC, that BitPay would report all their BTC transactions when they file taxes, and then a few years later, anon would get a letter from the IRS saying that anon failed to report a taxable transaction and must pay the tax, pay the fine, and provide receipts to establish cost basis. That's exactly what happens when you fail to report a stock sale and the broker files their yearly paperwork to the IRS.

I don't think they would need a court order. Even if purchases are made under $3k, BitPay is going to report earnings and crypto holdings because they are a legitimate business based in the US. Their line items would have BTC transactions that link to anon. Now this is where the crux of my question lays:
>Would BitPay provide a customer name for each line item transaction when filing taxes?
>If yes, does the IRS run each invoicee's name through their systems to see if any of these people are US tax payers who reported this transaction too and paid their capital gains tax?

It honestly sounds like an accounting nightmare to do all that to catch people, but maybe they have an automated system in palce that makes it routine?

I believe that bitpay would do stuff with the 1099 forms for the small amounts. 10K plus bitpay would need to submit form 8300. It would be best to use a stablecoin with them for purchases, as ir5's noisiness stems from using a crypto that isn't pegged to fiat. Looks like they accept BUSD, USDC, Tether, and Dai.

In light of the recent bitcoin NFT fiasco, thoughts on keeping vs getting rid of Monero's own tx_extra field? Some good discussion being had here: https://github.com/monero-project/monero/issues/6668

Back when monero had:
>no minimum ring size at all (until it was increased to just 3 in 2016)
>no GUI wallet
>no RingCT (everyone could see the transaction amounts on the blockchain)
>no dynamic block sizes
>no subaddresses
>no RandomX mining algo
>no bulletproofs
>no dandelion++
>hashrate of 6.5KH/s
>triple digit daily transactions
That was just a fair market price desu. Back then it was a lot easier to acquire non-KYC bitcoin and send it through a reputable mixer on tor.

I agree that the Jews would probably fight against Monero, but it wouldn't do a whole lot that they couldn't manage if it were the national currency. They'd just adapt the current system to it
>business owner pays you in XMR
>you get a W2
>you file your taxes or get shafted
It'd be much harder for them if you were paid under the table, of course, but any legitimate business would still be able to tell the IRS how much you made and you'd get taxed accordingly. It'd be an improvement over the current system since the government couldn't unjustly seize your funds remotely like they do with bank accounts, but it wouldn't impact the tax situation much since paper money has similar "anonymity" in the sense that a specific dollar isn't typically traceable back to you.

>tl;dr
It wouldn't change much because the current system can already handle things of that nature.

If there would be a critical mass of people who adopt, understand monero, its would be a national currency so no incomes gain tax. if your payed under the table, no income tax. Since ownership is a password and the chain is decentralized. They can not seize funds with a click of button. They could torture you for the password. but you can send it abroad or to a null address and show them before they knock the doors down. It would stop inflation first and foremost.
Beside the tokenomics, its enables a inter-nation lifestyle where you can become like water, easy to move about and you wealth. Hopeful slowly monero interest groups (communes) will form and will be a safe-haven in every nation on the whole world. If the ruling class is hell bent on circumventing every law and rule. Than WW3 is inevitable anyway, only this time they cant size gold bars from nations or individuals, thus making it less incentivizing to do so.

Using cashapp to send bitcoin forces you to kyc but doesn't leave you open to IRSnigggers wanting capital gains tax since your cost basis is zero. The cex can be compelled to report your 0.1% gains in litecoin to the IRS, but if you use one with no kyc you're good

I need to find some good peers to cash by mail monero with. Seems like some of the dark net forums that discuss monero and shit are down. I’d also use gift cards or other anonymous means if need be. Crypto exchanges are starting to bend the knee to regulations hardcore and delist monero like crazy. I’m afraid it won’t be too long untill literally the only way to get monero is by using an exchange to buy shit coin then transfer it to a peer on localmonero, this will probably cause the price of monero to plummet. No biggie. We aren’t moonfags here. The real shitty situation is how much harder (((they))) are going to crack down hard on anyone buying monero soon after it’s not available at any exchange. I think that anyone buying shitcoin to buy monero thru localmonero or something is going to attract the attention of the IRS like crazy. The shitcoin wallets are very tracable. If shitcoins go into a mixer after being withdrawn to a private wallet or if you send them to another wallet at all the IRS is gonna want to know what you bought. Meaning each time you use shit coins to buy monero your gonna have to tell the IRS how much you gained or hold in monero and they’ll have a good idea of what your net worth is in monero at all times. Destroying one of monero’s best features. Not enough people care about privacy to form a community of people using anonymous means to acquire monero it seems. Not enough people care enough about privacy to use tor and i2p. Scary state of things guys. We need to fight harder for our right to privacy.

Really concerns me… isn’t localmonero next to crash and burn? Are there non KYC exchanges and shit on the darknet? I imagine you gotta buy shit coins from a KYC exchange then find a DEX to convert coins which, in all honesty does NOT get you in the 100% clear. The CEX still knows you bought shit coin, can trace your shit coin and when it disappears into someone’s wallet they wanna know, did ya buy weed, coke, silver eagles, or monero? And if you don’t report it, your fucked.
I think the gift card approach is pretty damned secure and untracable. More should try this route. Sure you gotta pay like 40+ bucks over. But your in the clear from the faggy fuck IRS and its worth every penny to have this kind of private money.

Pure profit motives don't exist with high time preference individuals and/or State intervention in the markets. Money that is sovereign from private or public forces is ultimately more inflation resistant, thus more saleable across time, so when the markets reach their equilibrium, more decentralized money wins over privately controlled money.
Satoshi believed in AE, he made several references to the regression theorem and the subjective theory of value, while designing on incentives rather than experiments or governmental goodwill. Thus he made Bitcoin decentralized. Decentralized money is simply more sound than non-decentralized.

they don't even need to own the computers, they can just rent processing power from google or amazon or whatever, and pay that with out taxes lmao.

In order to get things started with global membership proofs it seems that we need a curve cycle.

https://github.com/monero-project/research-lab/issues/100#issuecomment-1423154798

Unfortunatly the current curve used by monero does not have such a cycle
https://github.com/monero-project/research-lab/issues/100#issuecomment-1423491782

When we switch to jamtis, all address are invalidated and we get a new address format.
This is also the case when we switch curves.
So it should be done jamtis+curve switch to only have to do this once.

With this new curve global membership proofs are possible and monero will be perfect.

Storing any large amount of monero in anything besides the official wallet (and perhaps feather wallet) is moronic. Cake wallet is on your phone, it should be obvious why that's a bad place to put sensitive data. The only use I could see it being is if you want to have access to a small amount of monero with ease.

I don't know if cakepay is a good way to spend monero, I haven't tried it, but I am unconvinced that it is as anonymous as it claims. I simply do not trust corporate entities and cake wallet's ever growing grasp on the project is a threat to it's decentralization.

>Blockstream pays BTC core devs but their business model is doomed to fail and go bankrupt, which is based and allows for better entrepreneurship
their business model is to monopolize and obstruct the development of bitcoin to the extent that bitcoin loses its status as a functional currency, and there's no guarantee the collapse of blockstream will reverse this lost status. applying wholesale the capitalistic impulse of private enterprise to any currency, fiat or crypto, will inevitably pervert the function of the currency in the same way a parasite perverts the function of its host; a private entity will almost always undermine the utility and/or value of a currency in pursuit of greater yields (e.g., zcash, bitcoin).

therefore, users and devs alike should remain skeptical of a company like cake wallet and their apparent aspiration to dominate the monero sphere with cake pay, haveno, monero.com, @monero on twitter, magic grants, and endless amounts of community astroturfing.

why do you think we're all here? because it fucking works, and most of us would like to keep it that way.

Wownero is a separate playground to Monero, no intrinsic value but just shilling. I genuinely met a guy who was orchestrating "wownero shilling to 4chan retards" quoting him.

>alpha testing ground
False, Monero has testnet, stagenet and private tests and robust internal code testing. The only thing Wownero is testing is banning pool mining which has crushed network security since.

False, most miners left afterwards the solo-mine only HF

I feel like you are making this infinitely more complicated than it needs to be.

>Advanced GUI wallet
>go to settings
>click on "node"
>select "remote node"
>click "add remote node"
>enter node IP or domain name and port
>go over to "info" and change restore height to just prior to wallet creation.
>rescan
>wait patiently

If this does not get you connected to your node then it's a problem with the node you're trying to connect to.

I have some VMs that I want to use to mine monero. I have preciously used the minexmr pool, but they have closed it. I am trying to use p2pool instead, bit I am retarded and do not userstand how it works.

Is it really needed to set up a monero node and download the blockchain? I dont have the disk space for it on my VMs, even if I get the pruned version.

also yes, you need at least a pruned node which is like 50gb.
to use p2pool just download the official GUI wallet and when you have your node ready just start mining
