Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized P2P privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and fungible, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- In other words, the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a user willingly providing a view key.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptocurrencies. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of transactions increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier to entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward gradually approached 0.6 XMR in June 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

START MINING IN P2POOL
>START MINING IN P2POOL
START MINING IN P2POOL
>START MINING IN P2POOL

P2Pool combines the advantages of pool and solo mining; you still fully control your Monero node and what it mines, but you get frequent payouts like on a regular pool.

P2Pool has no central server that can be shut down/blocked because it uses a separate blockchain to merge mine with Monero. There's no pool admin that can control what your hashrate is used for or decide who can mine on the pool and who can't. It's permissionless!

Decentralized pool mining (P2Pool) is pretty much the ultimate way to secure a PoW coin against 51% attacks. Once P2Pool reaches & maintains 51%+ of the total network hashrate, Monero will be essentially invulnerable to such attacks.

Although many inexperienced miners think that bigger pools give better profits, this is absolutely NOT the case. Your profits in the long run depend ONLY on your hashrate, NOT on the pool's hashrate.

>YOU CAN NOW MINE IN P2POOL FASTER & EASIER THAN EVER BEFORE WITH THE GUPAX GUI. USES TRUSTED REMOTE NODES BY DEFAULT!!!!

1. Download the *bundled* version of Gupax for your OS here: https://gupax.io/downloads/
2. Extract somewhere (Desktop, Documents, etc)
3. Launch Gupax
4. Input your Monero address in the [P2Pool] tab. USE A SEPARATE MINING-ONLY WALLET!
5. Select a Community Monero Node that you trust, although you can and should run your own node if possible.
6. Start P2Pool
7. Start XMRig

VIDEO GUIDE: https://gupax.io/guide/

You are now mining to your own instance of P2Pool, welcome to the world of decentralized peer-to-peer mining!

>NOTE THAT DUE TO BOTNET SHENANIGANS XMRIG IS AUTO-FLAGGED AS MALWARE BY MOST ANTI-VIRUSES, SO DON'T FREAK OUT!!!

START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
>START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
>START RUNNING AN I2P NODE

>What is I2P?

I2P is an anonymized P2P overlay network akin to the Tor network but with several key advantages over it. I2P is now replacing Tor as the go-to darknet and will play a pivotal role in growing the Monerocentric economy.

>Why should I care? Why should I run a node?

Increasing shadow economy adoption and the proliferation of an XMR-only standard are what guarantee that XMR will have a floor and won't also crash to zero when the Crypto Casino finally implodes. XMR's long-term outlook is therefore *strongly* correlated with the darknet, you may have already noticed how the number of TXs begins to drop whenever the glowies attack & cripple the Tor network, which underscores just how critical it is that the darknet wins this war against the State. Make no mistake: if the darknet is allowed to die XMR will take a devastating hit as well.

So by running an I2P node you are helping to make the network Monero thrives in that much more robust while also enraging glowies in the process. Win-win!

>OK, but how difficult is it? Do I have to store GBs worth of data like when running an XMR node?

It is literally as easy as installing an Android app and no, there are no storage requirements, the node only consumes some bandwidth.

>Cool, I'm sold. What do?

If you have no interest in browsing the darknet yourself then the simplest solution is to install & run the I2Pd Android app on any compatible (Android 4.1+) device, ideally a TV box since they don't require recharging and are permanently online. But any old phone or tablet is fine too. Make sure you activate "start on boot" in the settings.

Otherwise just install the appropriate desktop client and leave it running.

The console is accessed via http://127.0.0.1:7070/ or the menu in Android.

>No tail emission = Bitcoin is fucked

Right now, at the current hashrate, miners break even on energy expenses at a BTC price of $22K. Post 2024 halving, that break even point, at the current hashrate, goes up to $44K. If BTC does not go to $44K, miners will be unprofitable and hashrate will have to drop (miners going out of business) to reduce the cost of securing the network, also reducing the security.

If you know anything about the power of 2, you already know that things get very big, very fast. If we’re 3 halvings into 32 total halvings, then the estimated break even point for miners at current hashrate going into the last halving would be:

$22,000 * (2^27) = $2,952,790,016,000 per BTC

$2,952,790,016,000 per BTC * 21 Million total Bitcoin = $62,008,590,336,000,000,000 BTC Market Cap

The block rewards shrink so fast that after enough halvings Bitcoin would eventually require a $2.95 trillion price per Bitcoin and a $62 quintillion market cap to sustain the current cost of $7.15 billion/year.

Even if these numbers were somehow realistic, can you imagine securing a $62 quintillion market cap on only $7.15 billion/year of hashrate? LOL.

And that’s assuming energy costs do not increase at all over the next 120 years, which they will.

So basically BTC mining will eventually become so unprofitable the hashrate (network security) will shrivel up UNLESS it is subsidized by BTC transaction fees.

I think these inscription things cost between 4 and 20 $ per piece with the biggest UX issue being the need of running a full BTC node.

Here's one I was planning on doing but then realized that I don't want to waste time on spinning up a Bitshit node just to inscribe this and shut it down 10 seconds later.

Almost-nude Monerochan with a condensed ideological message in the corner (QR code)

Not saying this one should be used, but I'd like to point out that it would be best to make sure every pixel is well-used. These will be in Bitshit's chain forever, but the time to post them might be limited. A bunch of eternal Monerochans would be cool, but even cooler would be eternal Monerochans AND eternal messages.

I wonder if this (or really, segwit in general) has any security implications for bitcoin node operators. Machine code is just bytes, so someone could upload malware to the network. Obviously the node isn't going to run the malware, that doesn't make sense, but perhaps it could be used with another exploit to get the system to execute the malware? Unfortunately I don't have the full knowledge of how this works so anyone know? I'm gonna guess not though because the malware bytes might not be stored in a format that could be executed without conversion?

Your participation in this "Pre-Poll Image Collection" is not only highly recommended, it is insistent that you participate in a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform the biggest dab on Bitcoin you could ever do by forever inscribing your all time favorite Monero-chan images I have collected over the years onto her blockchain, forever etched into our modern equivalent of a global "DNA" like project.
Thank you for your participation.

Am I the only one that buys buttcoin from an exchange then withdraw it to private wallet to send to a peer to peer transaction thru localmonero to get monero? Do exchanges get all curious and snoopy about what your doing if you start transacting large amounts of buttcoin? Like the banks do? I swear if I withdraw a grand in cash a few weeks in a row a bank gets all curious and starts asking what I’m doing with the money. Shut the fuck up, don’t worry what I’m buying with cash fucking banksters. I’m worried if I send too much buttcoin to strangers after buying thru exchange or using wasabi wallet to mix the buttcoin I’ll start getting monitored really closely

right now bitcoin core does not verify witness data older than right one year by default. mountain man larps can turn this off ofc and can verify everything from the start again and again but most of them don't even know about this nasty little trick. now the data is still downloaded and stored rn but this can easily change as a consequence of this idiocy with inscriptions.

after people realize the witness data can be discarded they will start to finally question why we do ibd at all? then we so a soft fork update that makes verifiable commitments to the previous utxo set possible and then someone can just grab the utxo set at a block height that has that commitment and fully skip ibd.

eventually bitcoin core full nodes will only store a couple of gigabytes on disk except for full archiving nodes ran by explorers, hobbyists and institutions and some companies that need that.

>> No.53572477

>>53572467
further optimizations are possible if nodes start storing the utxo set in the form of utreexo merkle forests then they can naturally serve feather light full verifying clients that only store the merke forest roots which is like less than 1kb, but can fully verify every update to that state if it's serialized properly for them.

"pruning" as you mean it, or the "bitcoin style pruning" is to disregard unusable UTXOs, that would mean that a node could tell if a transaction was used or not. Instantly.
Now imagine a new Seraphis transaction appears with 128 ring members. But because "muh pruning" anyone could tell that a UTXO was spent, literally just match it with the ring members and anyone could tell which transaction was spent. And thus ring signatures are completely useless. This is why key images exist in the first place, to tell that a UTXO hasn't been used before, WITHOUT revealing which one is being used, so "pruning properly" would mean a complete abandonment of Monero's untraceability.
And I do not see how, zk-proofs for input proofs would solve this, as that's basically a ring signature on the entire set of transactions, if you reveal which one can be discarded, which is essential in order to "properly prune" anonymity is lost.

What you can do for pruning is to only store needed hashes and not data, however that still relies to trust the other nodes to, you know, not fake/misreport the hashes. This is what SegWit is doing btw, there is no cryptographic guarantee that after you've discarded the "prunable" witness data that the hash is correct.

>> No.53572732

>>53572714
no pruning is to prune spent txos that are not part of the utxo set and outputs that can't be spent are pruned from the utxo set as well but that's a different thing.

Yes it is, the critique of zcash is not what they do but how they do it.

>> No.53572756

>>53572732
but in bitcoin pruning mostly means just fucking pruning blocks or only the witness data. bitcoin has a utxo set that can be looked up without needing to look up the blockchain. it can also be assumed from others by simply asking people you trust what is the digest of their utxo set and compare it with the one you got. a person could never guess the sha256 of what you have, so you know it's fine if it's a match.

basically the database is the utxo set, it has no witness data, and the transaction log is the blockchain which is completely discardable.

it is already possible.
an RSA accumulator does exactly that, it only needs a group of unknown order, which in this case is the trusted setup.
Generating groups of unknown order is active research and there are promising ways to do this.
Another thing which already works is Ochard with Halo2. Darf.fi is using this i think.
That are zk-SNARKs without any trusted setup.
Monero would not need generalized zk-SNARKs, but only a zero knowledge set membership proof which is doable.

I have a hypothetical scenario for you all about moving crypto gains into physical precious metals.

>anon knows of a reputable bullion site based out of Hong Kong (official dealer for all government mints, etc.)
>anon has made many purchases from this site in the past
>anon notices that the crypto price is almost the same as the cash price
>anon reads that the site uses BitPay to accept payments in crypto
>anon learns that BitPay won't ask for KYC for paying a BitPay Invoice, so long as the purchase is valued at under $3,000 USD
>anon doesn't want to pay capital gains tax on spending crypto though
>anon considers moving crypto gains into an XMR wallet on a non-KYC exchange, converting the XMR to BTC, and then using the BTC to pay the BitPay Invoice from the Hong Kong-based business

What risk is there that BitPay would report the BTC transaction to the IRS, linking it to anon, thus prompting the IRS to ask for the receipts for the BTC purchase in order to establish the cost basis for the capital gains tax, which would then show it came from a crypto-to-crypto transaction, linking the purchase to the XMR wallet and all complex series of crypto-to-crypto transactions that came before this?

That seems to be a compact RSA program in perl which was illegal to export from the USA under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and other Acts/regulations. Many early chyperpunks, like Adam Back (inventor of HashCash and possibly even Bitcoin) protested this heavy as the pretense of "encryption is illegal" is just fucking ridiculous.

Just tried to mine monero and I'm getting a lot less h/s than benchmark sites tell me I should. I have a i7 13700k and am getting 7000h/s.

https://xmrig.com/benchmark?cpu=13th+Gen+Intel%28R%29+Core%28TM%29+i7-13700K

says I should be getting nearly 1400h/s. What am I doing wrong? I'm using the miner built into the windows GUI wallet, getting same hash rate regardless of I use half thread default or all threads.

It says you should be getting 14kh/s according to the all-time best benchmarks in the world for that chip, which is assuming optimal and perfect everything.

scroll down to the middle and you'll see the average performances which aren't far off of your 7KH/s
If you haven't already, you can enable hugepages, get faster memory and strip down the machine to consume less power to eek out a bit more efficiency and speed, though.

Unless of course it pumps big, make all the journos write articles 24/7, other media saying it's good/bad just for the average Joe to say hey, maybe I should check this thing out.
Even then I don't see mainstream usage since writing things on a piece of paper instead of paying every month somebody to "keep it safe" is somehow not atractive.

Why do we need normies to use Monero?
>Unless of course it pumps big
Well there are pros and cons to a major price pump. Off the top of my head:
-Pros
1. better network security
2. more r&d
3. I can buy more things with my stack.
4. more adoption
-Cons
1. Normies are fucking retarded and a lot of them are moonboys
2. More mainstream attention means more attacks on the network (arguably a positive, as it makes the network stronger).
3. Increased liklihood of infiltration into the project development
4. Weaker privacy (more KYC usage)
The problem is that normies throw a wrench into everything good about Bitcoin (and everything in general) and I am concerned that an influx of easy to persuade normies would completely ruin everything that is great about Monero. People rightfully make fun of plebbit, but their Monero page did the right thing buy banning price discussion. I think the longer this is emphasized (use>price) the greater the long term viability of Monero.

So is it true or not that once enough transactions are done in monero versus the USA dollar that Jewish Money Masters will not be able to collect income tax and this will end the welfare queen handout system i.e the gibs?

won't the Jew Banksters fight tooth and nail once they realize they no longer have control over money. Once they realize they won't have endless handouts for the gib community?

Monero if it was being used by a majority of the people would really throw a monkey wrench in the Jewish Money Printing Bailout Bucks Endless Handouts charade to Niggers right? or wrong?

Could jews still give endless handouts to Niggers in an economy that totally functioned based off of Monero?

i think that once the system "starts" to become highly unsustainable, they will put more pressure on people who is actually paying taxes forcing them to start avoiding taxes which will accelerate the fall of such system eve more.
if the tax system falls completely at some point then a complete restructuring on the way our societies work will be needed.

so do you think slavery will come back to being legal? I mean a good portion of the people in cities are slaves in the sense that they can't earn enough, can't exist without government handouts etc. Will these people essentially become slaves to the new owner class? This is what I see happening. We have financial wage slavery now a days due to all the bailout bucks that have been created and handed out. Hard to know who is an actual business person and who is really a welfare queen masquerading as a person in business.

They're probably already 'overclocked'. Pushing mem any farther is often a lost cause. You can often get more mhz, but to maintain them you generally need to roll back timings. Looser timings, especially on zen's memory architecture, scale pretty linearly. You lose basically everything you get.

I use the same CPU, getting 13K.
Check list

CPU clock speed? All loaded mine is sits steady at 3.95; I don't mess with overlocks.
Mem speed? I'm using 3600 sticks, but technically should be diminishing returns beyond 3200 due to 3000 series infinity fabric clocks.
