He didn't rug pull. He simply lost to Ethereum. Vitalik had a better smartcontract platform. Sergey was going to for full stack dominance. Once he realized it was over he immediately decided to front run everyone else and develop the next and obvious progression for blockchain and DLTs which was off chain data and oracle networks.

He's years ahead of any competition and has a monopoly currently account for more than 60% of the oracle market share last I looked.

Lucky for him and early LINK buyers, this use case has the potential to be a better value proposition than even Ethereum in the long run.
