Hi /biz/ I have a question, I sell stuff online, I always get these consumers who ask via email "Is it still available?" for some of the products that I sell, I reply "It still is" but then I never get a reply back, I get allot of this, most of the people interested ask me this same question all the time, who are these people /biz/? What is up with them? Should I be saying more?

Do you have an ecommerce site? There's no reason to follow up with you if they just get what they need and leave.

If not, you should prep out a better canned response to this type of email and have some good offers ready to entice people. Typically they will ask if it's still available if they're on the fence about your product. Answer their question effectively and efficiently but give them a carrot to chew on or give a follow up question.

I need an example, pretend I'm a potential buyer then.

Hi, is your **** still available?

they could be checking for a good price to sell their own product. if yours sells at around 100$ they might try to sell theirs for the same

You didn't understand the key question. Are you selling consulting services, etc. or is it a product where they don't have to communicate with you to purchase it?

Then I'll humor you but honestly you know your product better than I do and will be able to sell it

No I don't think so, I get it too frequently, like 70% of the time.

Products. But it's nothing like Ebay, it's Local, they check my stuff on my site and then call me if they like it.

Or email. Which is what they do, they email me or text me this same question every time.

Hm. Okay. Just write up a canned email that sounds professional. It's possible you lose customers by just saying "it still is."

It's possible that just 90% of people who ask this are actually looking at other things or are simply looky-loos. Not sure what your business is but you should be able to gauge that. Informational calls are a fact of life, sorry.

Yea I was thinking this too, I just figured since it was so frequent maybe you guys had better success with these people or some rule of thumb or something.

Why don't you have a Paypal checkout cart on your site? You are losing most impulse buyers. Also if people are dealing with a merchant through email or text they can back out easily. You need a button they click to finalize the sale.

I'm not in business but I'm speculating from personal experience. If these type of leads haven't panned out in the past then there's not much you can do. Not sure if you are selling products that are such basic needs that they sort of sell themselves (not needs necessarily but TVs, etc. you get the point). If you are, I wouldn't invest that much time in converting every potential lead. If you are hawking something that does take a lot of effort to sell, you might want to put in a little bit more effort. Find that middle ground for your industry.

My suggestion would be to have a generic explanation of information about the product and you can paste this into emails responding to queries.

I will echo this, however. People are VERY impulsive when it comes to buying things. You need to capitalize on this if it's appropriate for your product (anything but cars and houses, essentially).

I never thought about this, so true, I guess I have just been so content with the way I have been doing biz I didn't care for it, but now I'm rethinking that.

So everyone pays in cash? Seems like a hard way to run an online business. The IRS doesn't even scrutiny Paypal accounts that do less than $10,000 in sales and Paypal doesn't report you to them until you give them you pass that threshold and still can't do anything until you give them your SSN or EIN (not a requirement when you first open an account).

>Tip: If you are going this route anyways you can always open multiple Paypal accounts very easily. Just a thought.

Sorry I worded that weird.

We can't speak for your business though. You have to make the decision about how much you want to expand. (time, resources, etc. are all factors)

True, I just been happy making enough profits to get by and enjoy the little things in life, I do see room to expand, I never really gave it much thought, glad I came here tonight though, I think I'll go big since I enjoy money, wish me luck biz bros.

If the business is small enough (under $50k a year in sales) its not too hard to spread it out between a few accounts and escape scrutiny from prying eyes. If you are looking to expand past that you may just want to consider more legitimacy.

Thank you based anon, I think it makes sense to do so now that I will aim to go bigger, I guess I will have to aim for more legitimacy to go big, ughh I hate paper work.

Where did you learn this trickery? did you study to become an accountant or something?

I run an eBay business but I am familiar with tax laws and audit procedures since I used to be an auditor.
