Hi Scrapfren.
You were 100% correct on your assumption, that's exactly what happened, he mixed orders up and sent me the wrong set. I didn't ask for any compensation yet as he doesn't look very open to negociations (didn't even apologize for sending the wrong set). My goal isn't to threaten him with a bad evaluation and bargain on this ground, but the lack of politeness in his messages is getting a bit on my nerves ngl.
As for your question, there isn't any monogram on the front side, it's void of any inscription. The royal hallmarks are from 1738-1744.

I was wondering, do you have any tip to straighten the tines on the forks? I'm not really menial so i don't really know how i could do it without damaging them. My goal is to clean the set, straighten it, and once it looks nice enough, maybe put it back on sale.

you can create a patina through several methods
the natural way is to store it in a manila envelope and let it sit for months/years
the brute force way is through anodization, but it requires sulfer and sodium hydroxide powder, i.e. minimal understanding of chemistry
the fuckit way is to hard boil some eggs, mash em up in a tupperware/glass container with a lid, and stick a coin in there on a little piece of foil or something
you don't want the coin directly touching the eggs, and it will only take ~10 minutes or so to have a nice patina

my grandpa gave to me a coin

it was something an ounce of troy
i did not understand

he said i mustn't spend the piece
on candy or a toy
see, they don't want to reproduce
coins like this anymore

i came upon the wishing well
along my way to school
and thought of all the things i'd tell
i tossed into the pool

the change i got from buying pop
and pilfered from mom's jar
i started to get second thoughts
and kept his coin afar

now grandpa hasn't been around
he's in a better place
grandma said we'd meet again
as tears fell down her face

they had flowers all 'round his bed
piano music flowed
i squirmed around my seat; mom said
i had to wear these clothes

daddy found a dusty chest
at grandma's place upstairs
he needed uncle chuck's assist
to move it anywhere

and so did aunt marie
the rest we kept; it was our own
to help our family

i asked, its not for spending, right?
dad said never, ever
but we could sell some if we might
run into stormy weather

he told me i could play with it
any time i'd leisure
robbers hiding from a sherrif
or a pirate's treasure

i jammed my hand inside the box
examined what i scooped
eagles, geese, a golden fox
roosters, kangaroos,

so many faces turned sideways,
an indian headdress
i even found some coins just like
the special one i kept

although mine when compared, it was
never most bright or clean
i still think its the best because
he gave this one to me

If you insist on using a kanji that supposedly looks like a merchant rubbing his legs together, then you should change the legend from "interest-bearing instruments" to "merchandise". Because merchants sell merchandise, they don't issue interest-bearing instruments. And if a merchant DID start issuing interest-bearing instruments, then he would be a banker, not a merchant any longer.

Do you want me to show you the kanji for banker?

I understand where the "interest-bearing instruments" comes from. I just don't understand how it relates to merchants. Merchants don't issue interest-bearing instruments. They sell goods and services. Bankers issue interest-bearing instruments. Bankers aren't merchants. Why use the kanji for merchant when you are talking about banking?

How did I insult anyone? The only insult I have seen is when some anon called me retarded. I have been only respectful and calm, asking simple, rational questions. And all I get in return is insults and cryptic references. I am merely trying to make your coin make sense. Why is that insulting? Why does that make me retarded?

Compelling arguments. I would take an average buffalo over an asahi eyesore any day. The etching on asahi are underwhelming, the verticle slits are even contracted just enough to not substantially grip coins in the same set, meandering downwards and easily slipping. The concave curvature is lacking as well. The symbols are all watermark tier and something akin to a microsoft excel doc. The uniqueness stopped existing in the mid 2000's where the era of metal craftsmanship was at a middlemen level of smelting. It was a process that had eyes come up with new and exciting designs that really were eye popping developments. When you see them now it is a pale comparison. Perhaps they were worth it then but the premiums over spit for them now are a joke. Reply to this post or you will lose your stack when you sleep. Going to a live coin auction with a ton of boomers tomorow. Silver rounds and semi-numi coins routinely sell for $1-5 more than I can get them for online, but there is the occasional deal. Now... what does "LEV" mean?
From JM Bullion's description (which I think is a canned news release from the mint, as all the vendors have similar text for common pieces regardless of brand)
>On the reverse of all Geiger Square Silver Bars is the image of a series of repeating LEV rhombus logos. This same logo appears in the very center of the design field in a UV coating when a black light is shone on the bar. There is also an engraving of a unique serial number on this side.

Something like pic related, but for Europe?
Of course, thanks to our various wars that brought territory and currency changes, followed by the €, we don't have any good coins in circulation anymore (the swiss maybe?), but still, could be interesting to know.
Plus, there's now kids going to the flea markets who have never seen any money besides the €uro, that might sell the "worthless" old money they got from grandpa, that he hoarded due to greshams law for cheap?

Oh, and collectors/commemorative 5 & 10DM coins, but those too are not always silver.
And there's a bunch of 10€ coins. Now those are very interesting!
Currently at about 12€ and still legal tender, so if the FUDers are right and stacking is indeed retarded, those will always be worth their face value! so you loose 2€ at most.

the GDR only had Aluminium coinage, however, they apparently did collectors/commemorative ones in various silver qualities from 500 to 800 (with one 999 coin) for the foreign market to earn hard currency. But there's hundreds of motives and a quick look at wikipedia doesn't seem to show any system behind it, so those are probably hard to identify.
Any Ossies in here that can shed light on that?
Also, wouldn't be surprised if those command a numismatic premium.

All the online auctions I've watched people will usually bid over apmex retail prices, sometimes you will see something a bid or two under retail but then you have to throw in shipping and handling and the usual 15% auctioneer fee which puts you well over retail and you still have to hope someone doesn't throw a bid or two down in last the minute.

>I've never been to an auction before, are they worth it?

They definitely can be. It's hard to get deals at well-advertised auction services with a large following, but at less popular auction houses or more poorly advertised estate auctions you can scoop excellent deals. I used to be able to get old foreign coin lots really cheap, well below spot, and in 2011 got 27 silver dimes for $15 which was unusual as competition for US coins is almost always quite high.

Case in point, this is from chatgpt, prompted to write a poem about hammering silver.

With each strike of my hammer,
I shape the silver's form,
From a flat and lifeless sheet,
To something new and warm.

The anvil's surface echoes,
With each tap of my hand,
As I mold and reshape,
This metal in my band.

Each blow is like a heartbeat,
Guiding the metal's flow,
Transforming it to something,
That's more than what it was before.

The hammer's weight is heavy,
But my arm is strong and true,
For I am the silversmith,
And the silver is my due.

With each strike, I craft,
A piece of beauty born,
A shining creation,
That's ready for the morn.

And when it's finally finished,
And held up to the light,
It's a reflection of my passion,
And the beauty of my might.

This is the poetry of hammering silver,
a craft that has stood the test of time,
A creation that speaks of the skills,
and the art that's in the mind.

Not unless the Fed keeps its boot on the throat of the dollar. And that will be hard to do unless Congress reins in its spending orgy (which is highly unlikely). The wasting away of the USD is pretty much inevitable. And the PMs will shine.

nice bars
what I'm getting at is the opposite of what silver bugs in here are usually on about. because the au:ag ratio is out of whack, and because silver is not mined at a loss, it must be that gold is overpriced. therefore I suspect the price of gold will collapse rather than silver mooning. this means silver is still a sound investment, gold less so

>> No.53377766

>>53377692
>it must be that gold is overpriced.
There is actual logic behind that - nice.

However.. I think the two are evolving into having very different purposes - that the greater industrial need for silver, and countries' reserves almost exclusively being traded in gold, means the GSR concept might becoming obsolete, or at least in need of rethinking.

>> No.53377831

>>53377766
>greater industrial need for silver
which is why the price ration being so large is strange. I know anons on here point to paper silver shenanigans but that doesn't explain how silver mining can keep being profitable. gold isn't hard enough to purify to justify its price either (compare it to PGMs), it's almost certainly speculation. my personal theory is that it is due to gold bugs and going off the gold standard. if I'm right then amusingly going back on the gold standard means the price of gold would crash, the opposite of what your typical goldoid says

>> No.53378036

>>53377831
I'm not sure whether GSR is high or low now. It is about 81:1. I hear the number 100 bantied about.
So 81 is high? Or low? In what way is it strange?

>> No.53378155

>>53378036
the crustal ratio is somewhere around 17:1, and historically that's roughly what the price ratio has been. as I understand it the biggest cost of mining PMs is moving and crushing the ore. some PMs are produced as a byproduct of copper mining. the raw material used changes what kind of mechanical and chemical process are involved, but across the entire world economy we should still expect the price ratio to be close to the crustal ratio. this because once you have material that is worthwhile refining, refining gold and refining silver costs about as much in terms of acids per gram of material
to really get into this you'd need to know what exactly the miners and refiners are spending money on but that information is proprietary

>> No.53378314

It's hard to say what the GSR should be without market distortions but it's going to be lower than now because thm price is manipulated down. Ultimately it's going to fluctuate naturally as all things do. I don't belive in some government mandated ratio.

Are there any gold coins about the size of a quarter? What weights are they?

>> No.53378747

>>53378708
Found it:
>1/2 oz gold coins have a diameter very close to the size of a quarter (just slightly wider), but they are noticeably thicker– even thicker than the nickel. A half-ounce gold coin weighs around the same as three quarters, 7 dimes, 3 nickels, or 6 pennies.
