Honestly I think the real reason behind this is narcissism. Born out of being too comfortable and socialized. We're living in the Universe 25 mouse experiment. But instead of simply pruning ourselves all day we have this ultra advanced brain that understands concepts like "empathy" and "social in-group signalling" and other shit that makes us easy as pie to manipulate.
