In rural areas, "driving distance" is like 30 minutes to an hour. Even when I was in fucking nowhere, South Dakota you could get to a grocery store in under half an hour. Usually 15 minutes. I am aiming to live this kind of life. I currently live in the New York suburbs and already work from home. I live with my elderly parents and can't really move anywhere until they are gone. One bad thing with work is that if I move out of state they will adjust my salary down, which sucks. Not sure how much it would be adjusted. They have some formula based on cost of living of where you move to. But if the reduction is minor or I could supplement the loss with another job I would do it. I like not living in a city but neighbors are still too close in the suburbs. It would be nice to live somewhere where I don't hear road traffic.
