You need a stack of fiat (paper money or bank account money) before you collect PMs. If you have an emergency and are forced to sell your PMs, you lose a ton on the total spread in the short term. Based, when silver moons and becomes a sexy and credible store of wealth in the minds of normies again antique sterling will become much more desirable and valuable. Thousands of ounces of the stuff is refined every day so there is less in existence now than ever before, there won't be remotely enough to satisfy demand if the wheel turns 'round and it becomes trendy again. Most modern and low quality stuff should be refined but the venerable high quality antique silver should be preserved. At worst we'll have gobs of silver we bought well below melt value that is still worth around spot price but i think stacking antique cheapies has significant upside potential above and beyond normal boring modern bullion, and as collector items they would be safer from risk of confiscation (look at Roosevelt's often overlooked 1934 silver confiscation executive order) than a pile of Engelhards.

personally I prefer coins because they are beautiful and have a face value and historical value. especially the .900 purity stuff as it can actually be handled without too much concern. they stack nicely and can be flipped or put in tubes. or coin holders to keep them secure and close to you. bars typically will stay in an ugly blister pack and are too soft to play with.

Those German candelabras usually have a base metal nickel-silver plate on the bottom and probably some steel washer weights or solid filler inside the base but are otherwise usually hollow and of decently thick gauge in my somewhat limited experience. If it's completely filled with cement, resin or plaster crap then the yield will be lower but the german pieces tend to have hollow sturdy relatively thick gauge arms etc. There are many variables so I'd estimate anywhere between 200-270 grams of .835, my hunch is around 230-240g

Yeah it tends to be monogrammed and dented or worn down and appropriate refinery fodder, but always research the silversmith marks because some coin silver items are worth gobs, typically pieces made in antebellum southern states from what I've seen. Common spoons usually aren't anything special but coin silver cups/mugs and other more scarce or unique items can be quite valuable.
