BTC price is rising a bit in the past few hours and open interest is also rising quite heavily but in favor or shorts.
How is price able to increase if more shorts are being opened than longs, is it because the sell orders are being bought when price is rising therefore creating short positions but wouldn't that equal to net zero buyers and sellers neutralizing each other?

my dude, a fucking CEX collapsed revealing they have been manipulating price to counter trade their users. why do you traders still use that shit when all prices are being moved around with the single purpose of fucking you over?

You can't really use that as an indicator because it not only doesn't include every single trade or exchange, there's spot buying and selling, institucional buyers, etc. If you could simply trade with it or inverse it everyone would do it

The present and the future are not the same thing. Unless you are Hopi or from some other mystical tradition, in that case I apologize and respect your choices.

Well they weren't doing a good job counter trading if they collapsed

Price goes there where most liquidations are possible. A lot of shorts opened up? Let's liquidate them all. A lot of longs opened because of price going up? Let's liquidate them all.

A lot of shorts opened because of price going up so we go even further?

Futures trading exists so that you don't have to purchase the underlying asset. Opening a long or short has no effect on the spot price of that asset.
