> Mom had lasik years ago, now suffering multiple side effects. Doc was paid by the old equipment company, now doesn't do lasik and doesn't use old equipment.
> My right eye hurt, eye doc warned retinal detachment and recommended immediate surgery.
> Year later went to a bigger hospital due to constant infection, MD said "Why the fuck did you get the surgery?", turns out the hole was naturally recoverable, surgery unnecessary.
> I'm young and already have permanent damages from the surgery and slight eye dislocation, might go blind in one eye from complications.

Sorry to hear that OP. My dad had TWO detached retinas, separate occasions and went through multiple surgeries for over a year, he was basically blind at one point. The surgeries worked though and now he has better eyesight than before.. Still worried about him, also its genetic and when I went for an eye test the other year I had a very small detachment before. I know I'm fucked in the future for sure so I wear glasses instead of contacts most of the time in case that helps.

Can confirm. Had enophthalmos and malpositioning from untreated orbital blowout fracture ("It'll heal on its own, let's treat it conservatively," even though surgery was indicated). 10 years later, went through gauntlet of visits with "tOp 5" opth in country to fix it, because it was not only a deformity but also screwing with my vision and body positioning. Cold cunt, didn't listen to my concerns, probably a sociopath, kept trying to say the issue wasn't as bad as I was saying, proven wrong every time measurements/imaging was done. Finally had surgery, it didn't fix it. Or maybe it did, and using my CPAP early (doctor said I could use it a month earlier than it turns out is recommeded) unfixed it. Either way, went in to follow up.
>I'm concerned
>It's fine, it's positioned where it's supposed to be
>But it clearly isn't, and isn't it supposed to be slightly exophthalmic due to swelling from the healing process
>Don't worry about it
Second follow up, I'd lost my insurance and fucker wouldn't even see me. He's definitely been Reputation Defended, other people complain on review sites with similar issues but they're swamped by 5-stars.

Remember, medical practitioners in the US are driven by money and prestige. They don't give a shit about you. The system either drives it out of them or drives soulless career-climbing bastards to the front.

Dry eyes can last forever. I was considering LASIK many years ago but being schizo I reaserched the topic and found forum of people crippled by surgeries. Dry eyes was very often and permanent side effect. Other included double vision and halos. I decided I will stick with contact lens because even 1% risk of permanently fucking up my vision is too much. Also ... the correction may not be permanent or you may get under or overcorrected and later you may require another surgery.

>> No.51409525

Seems like doctors fuck up everyone. I have a fucked up nose because I broke it once and had surgery to "correct" it. Now I have a deviated septum and my nose is worse than before the surgery, I can only breathe through one nostril even though it was supposed to be fixed. I could get another surgery to get the deviated septum fixed but I worry that it will just make it worse.

How did it go?
I got PRK back in December of 2021. When I left the surgery table I was ecstatic, as I had been wearing glasses for 25+ years.
Eyesight was slightly better than 20/20, but is now stable at a little less than 20/20.
I had AWFUL astigmatism, and EXTREMELY thin corneas. The surgeon told me I should not go through with the surgery, but I opted to go ahead due to career requirements. My astigmatism is almost completely gone, and the effects of astigmatism are also gone.
So far the only issue is dry eyes, which at first felt like sandpaper dragging on my eyes. Much better now that my tear ducts have healed.
I'm 10/10 happy and would absolutely do it again.

>force you into surgeries
nobody can force you into a surgery, granted they can apply a lot of pressure. It’s certainly not ethical. But the responsibly is on you. I made the same mistake when I was a pre teen, consented to a surgery the doctor acted like was minor, and was subjected to the most excruciating pain of my life. Traumatized me for years and I’m only now coming to terms with it all, and thankfully I don’t think I have permanent damage, or at least nothing major. But even as a child I was asked permission multiple times. Doctors have a voodoo like hold on normies and boomers, and at the time I trusted my boomer parents to be more discerning than they actually are

Before that they sterile the root canal, but it never perfect, so there's always bacteria left over from the procedure. And it's sealed away so your antibodies can't clear it. Hence you always have an infection spreading from the root canal.

I'm not sure I believe that. If it's sealed away how is it spreading? And i it's spreading, how can it not be cleared? Either way, it's get it pulled or root canal it. I'd rather not loose a tooth.

Getting a wisdom tooth pulled fucked me up way worse than a root canal. It feels like a part of my nervous system is gone even almost a year later. Legit feel like I lost 10 IQ points, reflexes are worse in general. These big teeth are connected directly to the nervous system.

The bacteria festers and your antibodies can't travel to the location because your nerves were drilled out. Yes, there is a reason they are called wisdom teeth. The jeets believe wisdom teeth hold chakric power. So glad I wasn't jewed into giving those up. The dentists do hound you for that as well.

Weird, I found the same posts but I can't find any other mention of that anywhere else so idk how accurate that is.
Even if that is the case, I think I'd be fine with that if the price isn't insane, basically like instead of going for an eye checkup you just get your eyes re-done.
There's some comfort with the idea that your eye will repair itself if the procedure doesn't go well or the results are bad too. And I like the idea of not worrying about dry eyes or anything shitty like that.
I really hope it'll be available in the next few years, but feels like it'll probably take longer.

What kind of surgery did you get and for what specific condition? If it was for a retinal break or tear it should have just been a quick laser cauterization of the retina, which is painless and practically side effect-free.

>> No.51411691

>>51411659
Also I should note that laser cauterization of the retina is a completely different surgery than the laser treatment done in LASIK.

Eye doctors are a massive scam. You can fix your eyes for the cost of an eyepatch, although if your eyes are really bad you might need intermediate lenses while you improve.

I have two coworkers who got lasik and it worked fine for them, but from what I understand there are two different types of procedures. One of them involves a scratching device being used to scratch at your eye before the laser, to peel back something. Idk the specifics. One of them got it, the other didn't. Both of them can see fine now. Both of them could "smell" their eye burning. I think it was a 15 minute procedure. But, there's a 1% chance your vision gets worse as a result, is what they told me. I don't know if that was a statistical 1% or just a disclaimer to protect the provider. I'll probably consider lasik at some point but it's unlikely I'll do it. Most insurance providers consider it cosmetic and thus don't cover it lmao

I've been doing something similar inconsistently for the last month and I've been noticing results. At first it felt very slow but it feels like things are speeding up now. I haven't gotten a reduced prescription or anything yet, I just read at the edge of my focus with an eyepatch for 30-60 mins with each eye. I went from holding books 6 inches to my face to about arms length now.

If you didn't have a retinal detachment then they shouldn't have given you detachment surgery. If it was just a break or tear then it should have just been a simple laser surgery via your doc's head-mounted laser.
