I've build a fantasy world during 9 years (2010 up to 2019) but had to put it in the freezer because I suck at writing, I can only write general chronology. The map was like 7 meters long, if I recall correctly.
I could just throw a basic template for the story and the AI would develop the characters based in their psychological profiles. This would be so cool, I would read stories in my own fantasy universe written by an AI.

I have yet to see any AI art output that really impresses me. No I am not a salty trad artist. All I mean is a) all these things can do is rip off (in a very clever way) the artists they were trained on, and b) all these things can do is create visual material that makes your eyeballs vibrate. It's a product, it's made-to-order, and the only industries and 'artists' it disrupts were soulless to begin with, like shitty fotm patreon porn artists, artists who spend their whole careers drawing the kind of shit that gets frontpaged on deviantart, AAA MMO studios, etc. Far from shitting on this tech, I am excited for it to take over these industries, as I think it will actually reenable amateur artists to scale back and focus on conveying concept, emotion, and interiority rather than just grinding to make the shiniest most soulless wallpapers. Well we're already past that point. I see 6 months as the point where we might start to see more novel creations. Of course, the true creativity comes from the creator while the AI merely interprets their vision. In the same way that software improvements have allowed for digital art like some of the images you've posted, machine learning is the next step forward. A lot of highly skilled digital creators that get praise today would only be capable of producing the most painfully mediocre trash if dealing with paint on canvas. Digital features like layers, opacity, custom brushes, 3D models/references, and even the undo button all reduce the impact of talent and turn the creative process into more of a grind where hard work and good process wins out.

To make a novel creation, you'll need more than the ~20 keywords most of this current shit is using. That's really the big limiting factor. You're not gonna make something unique using the same 20 keywords as everyone else. Even if you produce something that looks good, it'll likely be heavily ripping off the style of 1-2 people. You have to write a novel.

Anyway, while AI will rapidly deprecate the digital medium, physical art will last much longer. It's not that AI can't learn to efficiently manipulate physical constructs though. In theory, the same machine learning algorithms can easily produce a machine that masterfully manipulates a real world paintbrush to create the same strokes as an old fashioned painter would. However, the level of technology of our machinery has not advanced far enough. There is no cost-effective mechanical arm out there that some random tech bro can download in 10 seconds and start using. It could be decades before this exists. Until then, it's limited to companies like boston-dynamics investing 10s of millions to create a 2 ton robot that can do some tiktok dance.

All of this is why I only paint trad, oil on canvas. For me it's just a hobby though.
