This is the same policy that destroyed American Education forever, the prices skyrocketed, and quality went to shit, Universities became a mall, le college experience became a thing. It's not offical and I refuse to belive it's offical until it's signed and passed. He literally has only stated what he wants and nothing else, no officality. There will be many actors that try to stonewall this. As someone with remaining debt I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I could see it acting as a stimulus and getting younger people spending. I have $15k left, rent, and have no assets other than stocks so if this crashes the economy with no survivors, that sucks but I've got nothing to lose any way. The real issue here is all of the companies that deal in SLABs are basically getting a big government paycheck I assume. It's basically if the 08 crisis happened and the government just bailed out the banks and caged out people mortgages for them. The whole time the bank knew that if the loan recipients couldn't pay them back, eventually the government would pay them.

Per the school itself (which has raised tuition among other schemes) all that would do is add more students to their student pool, which means you would need to hire more teachers. If these new students coming in were paying the same amount as the old ones, the school should have easily been able to hire the same quality teachers necessary for the new students without raising prices that drastically. The college bubble isn’t because of loans, this is because of colleges being greedy little fucks acting like bankers (which makes sense because they’re all run by jews at the top, and 90% of the teachers are jews). This is the way it is because liberals have decided you need to hire retarded diversity hires to do nothing while paying them the same amount as an actual genius. The prices are higher because children are having to take out loans in books because colleges have allowed teachers and text book suppliers turn text books into a money making scheme where you can’t buy them used anymore. There’s a million fucking schemes the people in these institutions are running which has fucked the average student, giving out more loans is the least of these problems (assuming no one abused this)

They are already pretty low. What they should do is allow you to make payments towards your student loans pretax. Honestly if I could have made 0 payments to my 401k and instead was able to direct payments from my paycheck directly into my loans pre-tax I would have paid them off completely years ago. Instead I'm basically forced to pump the stuck market with my 401k contributions or miss out on tax benefits. My 401k is worth like $50k but I still have like $15k worth of student loans. Instead young people could take a year off of 401k contributions and nuking the student loan debt for good. It would help if instead of first paying the government taxes you then pay the government you could just instead pay them directly. Plus then I could put more into my own personal investments after the loans are paid instead of the stupid nanny options companies usually give you in a 401k.

that money is going to go somewhere, that's for sure. I just don't know if it's going to make a difference in areas like house prices or durable goods. The former is far more dependent on rates and there's a glut of durable goods because retarded retailers thought the consumption we saw during the pandemic would stay the same forever. Keep in mind that 10k, 20k isn't going straight into people's pockets, it's just not going to come out of their pockets when the payment freezes stop (currently they've been pushed to 12/31/22). So what does that really do for people? It gives them an extra $100 / $200 to save for a down payment or a little more flexibility in how much their monthly payment will be. The typical person who falls for these scams. That’s what this is, it’s a scam to get votes. The cost of living increase from this will basically make the 10k worthless. People will continue to struggle to pay off their student loans as the cost of food and rent destroys their ability to pay off said loans. They will likely be even more underwater than they are now.

>But that wasn't due to just money entering into the economy, it was also due to supply chain breakdown because of lockdowns and other restrictions.
It was almost entirely due to this and more recently due to the war. People blame it on paltry COVID checks, but that was just a symptom of the lockdowns that were the real wrench in the whole machine. Overall spending was suffering during COVID, people were saving money and consumer deposits were spiking. Then in mid and late 2021 when lockdowns were easing up in the US people started spending a lot, but the market had become conservative with inventory and global shipping schedules were out of whack from their normal movements. Shipping prices spiked to get goods to people back shopping, and as a very globalized import economy the US saw huge price spikes. Then the war happened and energy prices shot up, exacerbating the whole thing. The vast majority of the slack was/is in the supply side. Enforcing some kind of austerity or something would be like having a bad harvest and suddenly deciding to permanently cut your diet to lower caloric intake because there is a shortage relative to the normal years. What you want to do is just work on growing the harvest again. Debt relief is just a targeted bailout for a group of people while prices are rising, and in this case it’s an obvious electoral demographic (degree holders that aren’t income rich).

All things considered if it leads to a decline in obesity it's worth it. I don't know if the rate hikes were a mistake but I don't see how they keep people in the rat race if the housing bubble never deflates.
>Debt relief is just a targeted bailout for a group of people while prices are rising, and in this case it’s an obvious electoral demographic (degree holders that aren’t income rich).
I was surprised they hadn't done something already but it makes sense that they would wait until it's a few months before the election. Still I have to wonder if that's going to sway enough people or motivate enough to get out and vote. I think the high prices for gas and food will leave an impression on a lot of people, and it doesn't matter to most people what actually contributed to those prices.

We might, I don't follow the details on it so we could be on a roller coaster for a while as the market finds out how to get back to normalcy without getting caught lacking in cash. I figure a lot of competition right now is in balancing the desire to catch market share with liquidity issues in the case that there is a sudden turn back to low spending. But hey, I agree that in the abstract if there was a consumer pullback that led to some societal improvements I'd be all for it. Like if people stop spending as much at restaurants because their prices shoot up and instead start doing more home cooked meals, it would be a very unintentional kind of change but it would probably help make people eat more whole foods and improve their diets. But I just mean the constant fear that there is going to be a reckoning because of consumer decadence, I don't see it. I think this isn't really a direct monetary problem, it's just supply effects of the pandemic and this war in Europe. To the extent monetary policy can be deployed to resolve the issue, I just think too much of a tightening would be self-defeating because it doesn't really address the problem. Although trying to control where money is flowing might help smooth out the transition back to "normalcy", so that there isn't as much possibility of this uncoordinated and rapid lurching between spending and saving. I figure the central banks are trying to do something like that, but it's kind of difficult for them because they operate through the market for money, and that is mainly attached to how businesses act. So they can mostly just discourage and encourage investment, and mostly on a delay (outside of influencing market sentiment).

I think a big part of the fed's problem is they drink their own kool aid. So they might keep tightening well past the point that is needed because they believe their revised definitions, cooked figures and tunnel vision on some metrics over others. My gut feeling is to not be too concerned though
>But hey, I agree that in the abstract if there was a consumer pullback that led to some societal improvements I'd be all for it.
I think it's inevitable especially considering how expensive some things are becoming. Harder times force people to adapt, and even when times get better some of those adaptations have already become habitual. I was largely joking, but there are some positive outcomes from rougher economies

I think at the very least it puts brakes on the housing bubble, and if that gets to the point where it pops you might see those price declines bleed into other areas. I've seen something from a paper the Fed put out this month where they admit that most of the rise in housing prices was fuelled by low rates. People harp on the supply, but at least according to the fed the real issue was abnormal levels of demand driven by cheap credit.

oh ya? it doesnt matter? ur full of shit. i work for, and with fortune 500 staffing agencies. 95% of companies aren't desperate in any sense of the word to onboard useless drones. only select tech companies (not the entire industry), some medical, and manual jobs with high turnover are persistently recruiting. at the end of the day, the company does not revolve around u, so, u will be treated accordingly.
dont like it? quit. now we have a better excuse to onboard sanjay in mumbai for $5 an hour. ur right, this isnt 08. everything has been automated since then and every company has several great reasons to stifle pay increases. honestly, what can u do that others cannot?

No I won't respond to your voice mail about a new opportunity. Yes, your address is filtered and goes straight into my trash folder.

Same thing happened during the mortgage freeze in 2007/2008. If you knew about human psychology you'd know that doing the right thing and paying off your loan was a bad decision.

They also want to lower the max payment to 5% of your monthly income, and also for interest not to increase if it goes past that. So if you are a neet that makes 0 dollars you don't have to pay anything and the interest never gets increased.
