I lived in Dubai for a year. It's actually a great place to be in if you have money. And if you're making money in it, it's also great since you pay no income taxes. If your joys in life are fairly simply like mine, you can spend a big chunk of your time enjoying the sights inside and outside the city, indulging in all the great food that comes from basically all over the world through various restaurants, and generally just spazzing out at whatever your hobby or interest happens to be. I kinda miss it, so I plan to move back there again in the near future. I get that it's a manufactured country and all, but honestly don't knock it until you actually spend some time living in it.
