silver and gold are still very much precious metals. Dispite what many people might think, most of the gold and silver mined in circulation was mined only in the last 175 years. Around half of that gold is lost out of reach in old treasure troves or sunk on the sea floor. Silver is constantly consumed in technology and in chemical processing, either to difficult or wasteful to attempt to recover. Were using more silver every year in heavy industry and green tech, to the point that we will start out stripping production. There is a LOT of silver out there in the world to go after though, so its not going to become a hyper rare metal any time soon, but its value will spike, especially as more alloy metals like tin become more costly to mine.

Impossible to tell, we reached a whole new level of talmudic clownery with spot going below silver's extraction costs for primary miners. A war for control over commodities is currently being waged on a global scale, this is the real face of WW3, so shit's unpredictable.

But rn we already are close enough to the bottom, i don't see the point of risking waiting more to save few pennies. Realistically silver can't go any lower as long as oil is at $100. It's the below the rock bottom already and can't last for too long at this point. Gold can dip lower and still remain profitable, but not by much (AISC at $1250/oz for Q1+Q2 this year). If you have dry powder and want to convert it, now is a better time than any moment during the past 2 years price wise. Use this opportunity to your advantage.

Exact, that's why i specified "primary silver miners". Banksters are using the contracts they have for byproduct silver to destroy the futures. But it can only go so far without a blowback, primary are still accounting for over a quarter of the silver extracted, and considering the always-increasing demand, the world can't go without them.

I have this theory i exposed since a while that JPM and blackrock have for goal to bankrupt the silver miners and take profit of the inelasticity of the silver market by provoking shortages this way to eventually inflate the price.
We can't forget JPM is sitting on the biggest pile of silver in the world since over a decade now. Surely they will bank on it one day. They don't mind sacrifying a bit of it rn at a discount to starve the miners, and once they are gone : booom. They become the only option left and can dictate the price in the timelapse needed for miners to restart production.

And the timing is quite perfect, they waited for all reserves held by central/national banks to be emptied (status we "officially" reached in late 2019).

>> No.50646191

What's the math for 60oz of silver putting you in the 1% of population that has silver?

>> No.50646216

Also i wanna add that byproduct silver doesn't mean "free silver" either. The extraction in itself only account for a third of the cost. The separation, refining, etc.. account for the 2/3 left. So let say a primary miner produce silver doré bars at an AISC of $20/oz, it will still cost a copper/nickel/gold miner $13/oz to produce the same thing, even though they saved on the extraction in itself.

You can always go the aforementioned scrap pewter route, it is often found at thrift stores or garage sales really cheap and generally ranges from 92-97% tin, the rest antimony and copper. It's almost always stamped/marked, is soft and easily bent, and usually has a distinct grey color due to tarnish over time. Might not be as pure as you want but I'm cool with it, accumulated several hundred pounds so far.

Most of the silver mined now comes as a byproduct of copper mining, but that doesnt mean its waste, its another marketable product thats all. Often the gold and silver recovered from copper or other mining pays major bills like fuel or materials costs. Primary silver mining isnt as cost effective currently, but in the past it was a major driver of the US economy. Major new copper discoveries are getting harder to locate and are taking longer than ever to bring to market, so silver supply will eventually have to be taken back up by other primary producers. A good example is Lucky Friday Mine owned by Hecla, they have been operating in the Idaho Silver Valley for nearly 160 years at different properties, Lucky Friday is one of the richest operating silver mines out there.

I see the logic in solder having added trade value.
I'm less certain about pewter. I imagine you'd have to have a refiner that takes in tin-derivative products. I know for instance Rotometals takes in some base metals. But they require a sample. If you have a bunch of separate pieces, I guess you'd have to melt it all together so you have a reliable alloy to submit for their assay.
Sounds like a lot of bother for what is currently a relatively cheap metal, meaning you also need a lot of it to turn a profit. But it's easier to handle than copper.
I would still go for the 99.9 ingots at $21.50 ( I haven't included shipping) which offer assay sheets. If the price truly moons, it would make up for avoiding the extra bother.

Lots of proof coins never retain their premiums so you need to be careful and research a series, the secondary market value of older proof issues from it and proofs from the country generally. I've been looking for this for almost a year now and finally won it at auction for €200.

Two-nines silver and smaller than I imagined (about the size of a U.S. Half Dollar). The history is very interesting. It's a 1932 party donation token, so the most important donors to the NSDAP may have received one right before the party stopped needing to win elections.

The design is also one of the coolest medallion designs. It's so on the nose it feels like it's something made after the war as a prop for a movie, but it's from its time.

Yes, if you're buying proof coins, you really have to use your best judgment on whether or not it'll keep its premium or improve it. For an example of a good proof coin, look up "the birth of venus". You could buy it from the mint for $300, a huge premium for a 2oz silver coin. But now it sells for $1000 on ebay. Probably will sell for even more as silver goes up.

If you're just starting out, best to avoid proof coins though. Just stick to the basics.

My typical copypasta to answer "what should I buy". My answer is more like, "Here are some options to consider."
- For generic bars with no design, watch the markups over spot: premiums (added charges) go up for smaller pieces. When selling, your buyer may insist on spot price.
- When a new series of artful or themed bullion (especially coins) comes out, the first of the series are usually missed by later collectors. They will pay high premiums to fill in the series. Ponder the potential for series popularity: generic and/or cringeworthy-themed series have higher failure rates.
- Interesting coins cost least while they're still being minted. Once the mintage stops and dealers run out of stock the prices jump, then rise more slowly but still faster than generic silver. Maples, Eagles, Wieners, Britannias, etc. are all nice but boring. The mint may add a privy to make them more collectible (creating a series) and gin up the price. Buy stuff that changes overall designs from year to year: Somali elephants, Canadian Wildlife, Australian kookaburras or koalas, island nations' series, etc. These become series.
- If you buy pieces that appeal to your sense of art, taste, and interests, they will still feel good even if the price or value of the PM goes nowhere. Caveat: if you go to sell, it's harder to part with them.
- Some beautiful generics are priced comically high (Germanias, e.g.) - they don't follow the market trends as readily, and usually garner highest resale price only for a few years after the mintage. The drawback: dealers may categorize these as "generic" and price them as generic when buying them from you.
- If free shipping is offered, buy enough to take advantage of that. Although it's shipping (not directly PM), it's an added premium.
- Keep a spreadsheet of your purchases!!! You should track profit/loss over time. It's quite revealing.

Here is a perfect example of a Gold source in nature. A small stream is working its way at a this jointed metamorphosed shale. The creek is following the same fault that allowed a quartz vein to form, now the quartz vein is heavily weathered and fractured allowing its cargo of gold to enter the water course. Slowly, this gold will make its way down to the nearby stream and there it will rest until someone comes and finds it. These sources arent usually so easy to spot, but logging road work has done a fantastic job exposing this marvel of an outcrop.

I'm no Mexican silver expert, so take this for what you will. Libertads have always been high premium due to both low mintage numbers and beautiful design. Some years are obviously more valuable than others, but it usually doesn't take long for them to reach their peak value. Those '83 Libertads might go higher as they continue to age, but it's a good bet they're already about as high as they're going to get (spot aside).

Does anyone here actually believe the Comex will collapse without taking the entire financial system with it? I just don't buy the idea that the financiers will let the Comex fall apart. Everyone seems to be shilling the idea that if everyone buys 100 ounces we can defeat the Fed. It seems to me the Fed is slowly falling apart on it's own and will be taken out by it's own short comings. I mean, keep buying PM's, but don't do it to own the Federal Reserve, do it to secure your future in this decaying world.

The problem is not the COMEX. Wallstreet will source the silver and do whatever it takes to keep it afloat. The big chungus in the room, the Mac-Daddy is the BOND MARKET. The amount of cash sitting in the bond market is literally twice the size of the GDP. It's almost the size of the housing market. Imagine what a ridiculous situation: Somehow, some way there is a magical pool of resources just sitting on the sideline earning interest. That debt is otherwise known as "leverage". Borrowed money, created by banks, has the effect of inflating balance sheets and propping up asset prices. People "feel" wealthy because their house is worth $300,000. They look at their 401k and it's worth $1M. They FEEL great.
However, once people begin to demand their cash from the Treasury we will all discover that it is all fake.
Consider the balance sheet of two people. 1Boomer father has $1M Cash. He lends $1M to his alcoholic son. Look what happens to the balance sheets: Boomer dad loses $1M cash but he gains a IOU $1M. Alcoholic son's balance sheet expands $1M. He goes and spends it on coke and hookers. Now what? The asset was consumed! The son can only pay the interest. However, Boomer dad's balance sheet still says he has $1M assets. It can never be repaid and needs to be written off for a fraction of what it is worth. That truth permeate EVERYTHING in financialized America.

Ponzi schemes always collapse. The entire debt based financial system is nothing but a giant ponzi that cannot exist without QE and artificially low interest rates. Why do you think there is talk about a reset? They know the system is on it's last legs. They have a new system ready to go where they'll have more wealth and power. They'll be on the right side of this trade, like they always are.

The only way for the system to collapse is for people to stop using it. The best way to do that is to destroy the trust in the system and use alternatives. If governments ever get desperate and pass a bill to confiscate people's commodities, then the best course of action is to just outright barter. We have the technology to do this efficiently now, outside of centralized communication. The dreamers think the collapse will be sudden, when in reality the systems will be working parallel with one another until one beats the other. It's a game of chicken which one people will put their faith into.
