Imagine, imagine waging, back breaking labor for minimum wage, subservience to authoritative bureaucracy and office sociopathy, modern day slavery, submitting oneself to daily ritual humiliation and conditioning, waking oneself up via blaring alarm and force feeding oneself, fueling oneself with caffeine, anti depressants and mindless consuming to cope, countless repetitive hours in back and forth polluted transportation in a tiny box on wheels, chasing status hoping to impress your conformist neighbors and indifferent hypergamous roasties, endless mind games and back stabbing competition, like a hamster stuck in a wheel, all while your entire lifestyle remains beholden to credit, bled dry and taxed to death at any opportunity, uncertain long term prospects and dim promises of old age retirement in a shifting degenerate society without tribal unity and solidarity, a subverted society with upside down moral values and no spirituality, that perverts your family and erodes your community via the circus of mass media controlled by a small clique of rootless oligarchs and their useful idiots minions, corrupt lobbies that wants you to feel guilty instead of proud, kneeling and masked, constant surveillance and no privacy anywhere all in the name of Freedom, in-group nepotism, PC censorship and absurd quotas everywhere all in the name of Equality, your eyes glued to a computer screen or a smartphone and your brain addicted to the meaningless dopamine rushes of consuming irrelevant digital data, either lonely or over socialized but always alienated and unfulfilled, prisoner to peer pressure, slowly kills your souls and numbs your mind, all in the name of short term profit and cosmopolitan greed, not living, barely existing, just surviving, a way of life so far removed from how nature intended humans to behave, over saturated fats poisoning your heart and plastics in the water destroying your body, objectively worse standards than a middle age peasants, just imagine

Working 14+ hours in the hot sun or freezing cold, breaking your body down. Dying before you even hit 30 thanks to abysmal or nonexistent health care. Superstition galore and no understanding of the natural world to cause high levels of fear.
You would not be happier in the slightest. You would be the same walking, talking piece of meat and bones that is still under the thumb of the elite. The elite being some rich lord who controls your land. You still owned nothing, and you definitely were not happy.

Lmao, is that what your common core education has taught you?
If people survived infancy, they lived well into their 60's or beyond. Even as late as the 1900's infant mortality was still over double digits.

Serfs in western Europe largely dictated their own hours, they just had to make sure they produced enough to pay tax to the church and the local lord. This varied by region, but was largely between 10 and 30 percent of what the assigned land could produce. Yes, healthcare was worse, but if you made it past childhood you had a good chance to make it to 70. Fear was mostly curbed by a genuine religious faith in god(s), similar to how our modern belief in science curbs our fears. You are right about not owning anything though, although serfs could often be quite wealthy if they utilized their land effectively.

There went that many official marriages
People just hooked up and after a few years figured they go talk to a priest about it.
Most arranged marriages where among merchants family's and nobles.

>owned land
Wasn't the whole point of being a serf that you DIDN'T own it? I mean, free holder were a thing but they weren't serfs.

yeah that's probably the only thing that might be an outright lie on that meme. i was also going to say "high quality, handcrafted goods" until i realized that most modern clothes and shoes, unless you spend big bucks, are paper thin fast fashion garbage crafted by some vietnamese child laborer with a 6 month useful life before they start fraying and disintegrating.

Even in pre-modern societies the leader would have harems of women, near limitless access to high quality food and entertainments. The poor would have maybe a wife, poor quality food and a few festivals a year. In that way nothing has changed. Life was always good for the rich and powerful and horrible for the powerless and poor.

It's not a bad thing, I'm just saying that the image is misleading. There are other things omitted on purpose, such as the fact that serfs aren't free to move or to determine their labor. It also doesn't take in consideration the time period or location; serfs in the late middle ages or in eastern Europe had significantly less comfy lives than the early western serfs, for example.

>> No.50552681

>>50550739
True. Obviously you would've needed some luck to avoid atrocities of the day, but if you did, you'd live about the same as you would nowadays.

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20181002-how-long-did-ancient-people-live-life-span-versus-longevity

From 1200 to 1745.. "Those records show that child mortality remained high. But if a man got to the age of 21 and didn’t die by accident, violence or poison, he could be expected to live almost as long as men today:"

>> No.50552850

>>50550739
Serfs by definition didn't own land. They were usually born into debt bondage and couldn't leave their village without the lord's permission. Peasants were slightly freer in that respect and yeomen were peasants who were allowed to own land.

>>50552681
>high. But if a man got to the age of 21 and didn’t die by accident, violence or poison, he could be expected to live almost as long as men today
