Student loans are the new hot potato. They'll be on-hold until the next election, where forgiveness will be an issue both candidates promise to handle, but they wont they'll just put them on hold until the NEXT election.

Hope none of you retards invested in any student loan servicers, lmao.

Student Loans will never get cancelled because it will set a precedent. You have to understand that vast majority of money is debt. If all debts are paid off, majority of money gets destroyed, creating a shortage, This will literally destroy the banks and credit buyers.

Also in about the same scenario. Got a good bonus and pay raise recently, owe about $22k. I think I’m just going to buy a property to rent out rather than pay anything on the loans. I’d be more worried about the loans if I wasn’t convince the interest accrual will remain paused, but since interest isn’t stacking up I see no need to rush. Money now is always worth more than money later, so make the most out of it while interest isn’t accruing

I live in around DC and most of the people I have to interact with are liberals. They all bitch and moan about student debt whenever it gets brought up. The ones that work for the government and especially the ones that have advanced degrees outside of STEM make it seem like they will never be able to pay off their loans. Or their loans are on schedule to be paid off only a few years before retirement.
These are also the people that are donating to causes and taking vacation days to go to marches, and are regularly going on international vacations.
I have a CS undergrad, make about 10% less per hour than the high end of them, and I have no debt, a nice car, a maxed out 401k and about $60k in the bank. In the next few years I might be buying land and building a house.
The only debt I will ever have will be a home loan and I plan to pay that off in before these other folks have paid off their student loans.

Weird projection, but if that makes you feel better, good for you. Everyone I know with massive student loan debt (like in the range you are talking about) either - Went to a private school for rich kids like a mong and had to get private loans or went to law school hoping that the programs that are supposed to get them out of that debt actually would do that - they got cucked. I know medical and dental school kids also are fucked by debt, but usually, they get the $$$ to get out.

idk why other anons are giving you are hard time. Maybe they think you should have been investing they money you usually would have put into your loan payments during the payment freeze.
My GF has been making larger payments since the pause to eliminate her higher % interest loans and only has about 12k left to pay off. She's waiting to see what happens first, end of the pause or forgiveness of any amount.
If they start charging interest again, she's paying everything off. If they forgive any amount and start up interest, she'll pay off the rest.
Like you, I also would have paid off my loans ASAP and lived well within my means

there is no interest accruing on student loans currently. there is literally no incentive to pay even one cent while this is the case. my loan payments have stopped until one of two things happens:
1. some decision is made to forgive some or all of my loan
2. interest begins accruing again
I'm still setting aside a standard payment in savings and if they do not forgive then i'll just pay that lump sum i've got set aside and be in EXACTLY the same place i would have been if i made monthly payments. if they DO forgive, then i will be able to maximize whatever forgiveness is offered and will avoid paying down a loan i wouldn't have had to pay. part of me says i took the loan and i should pay it back, the other 99% of me says i deserve loan forgiveness more than the monkeys that took loans and haven't paid any taxes in their entire life due to the color of their skin. fuck them.

I'll be keeping my eye out in the coming years as I accumulate more $$$. Minimum 25% down and would have liked to do a 50% down payment.
But if the market crashes, I just might be able to buy in cash.
Depending on what I can find, I might end up buying a plot of empty land in the woods and building a new house there to last me the next 30 years before I end up in a retirement home

it is legitimately sad that people think that the government is going to forgive their loans. the federal government alone controls close to 2 trillion dollars worth of student loan debt. they're not forgiving a single fucking cent of that and will either start collecting again in a months or will keep putting it off until after midterms are done. do you really think that the organization that takes MONTHS worth of your wages every year is going to turn a blind eye to 2 trillion dollars?
