Unless you own significant enough of a stock to make influence onto a company, you can't claim owning a stock has value over other assets on a personal level because you don't really own a part of the corp. You simply don't. You don't matter at all other than being a retail bagholder of said stock. For a layman you buy dividends stocks because they actually provide a strict value. YOU the little man gets proportional income through the company paying out profits. Neat. The big player buys stock to have an actual say in matters.

However if one were to buy (now pay attention) twitter stock, for example, before it found a way to become profitable then it's purely speculative. Twitter had no value, NONE, it was a total failure other than being propped up by speculative buying. Does that mean twitter was a giant ponzi scheme? Not quite, but I don't blame you for seeing it that way however you're misusing the word PONZI. It's a specific scam and the phrase, like FUD, is WAY overused and abused.
The little man buys twitter because he believes it will grow in popularity. What he doesn't understand is he should buy in speculation that when it does the big players who own stocks to own a say in the companies operation will pump said stock price. Those big players buy the stock to then bitch to the CEO to drive profit driven direction so they can drive up the value of the company and help drive stock adoption among other things.

Why are you buying crypto as the little man? What are YOU speculating on. Why is there big money in the ecosystem? Far more than retail.
