Based, I started making kefir in small batches for personal consumption last month. The first few batches were gross, but I’ve refined my technique. I actually do the first fermentation for 24 hours with a closed lid, and then a second fermentation for 8-12 hours with a closed lid, with some lemon peel added. The citrus in the second fermentation makes it taste a lot better. Im also going to experiment with adding maple syrup or honey into it as well.

Never. It’s actually really bad to do that. I just fish them out from the kefir as best I can, drop them in a fresh jar, and start another batch. I also make sure to microwave the milk for 25 seconds before adding it to the jar with my seeds, since cold milk can stress them and result in an inferior product.

Get the grains (natural, not powdered) then put them in a jar. Put either raw milk or D whole milk in the jar (def not ultra-pasteurized or 3%) then close the jar so that it breathes. I use a paper towel and a loop of string. Set it in a room temp, dim place for 24hrs, then strain the grains out of the kefir. Repeat. I like to refrigerate it for another day to mellow the sour taste
