Besides of course the ever-important bullion, anybody ever collect these? The older silver proof sets have a pretty low grey sheet price right now considering what you get. They're a lot more on ebay, especially the 2009 set so check a dealer first. I really want to try to get all 56 silver state quarters first and possibly after all 58 America the Beautiful silver quarters.

Coin shops tend to get overstocked with the proof sets, both Silver and Clad. You should be able to buy them from an LCS pretty cheaply (at least in my experience), but it might be nearly impossible to resell to a shop.
Don't buy these on Ebay, they're vastly overpriced there.
Estate Sales occasionally have them, but there's a 50/50 chance of them having a good price or a really bad one.
If you're really desperate, most bullion sites sell rolls of Silver proof quarters, but they tend to be just as expensive as the proof sets.

I only buy them because I like them, I'm not worried about reselling them. Last time I went to the coin shop they had a giant tupperware bin full of proof sets and brown ikes, and that wasn't even the full breadth of the proof sets they had. When I bought a 2008 silver proof set the dealer walked into a different room to get it. I do like the brown ike I have but the boxes are so damn bulky, they're the size of a DVD case for just one coin. Really doubt I would get that entire series.

That's breddy paranoid indeed buddy, obscure PGMs like Rhenium are as vanilla as it gets. If you were buying phosphorus or acetic anhydride or ergotamine then sure you should be concerned but an obscure harmless metal is of zero interest to any glowies. Go ahead and send those inquiries.

The only reason I mentioned reselling them is that if you're ever desperate for money (for a car repair or medical emergency or whatever), they'd probably be one of the first things you'll be inclined to sell since they're more easily replaceable compared to a lot of stuff.

Yeah probably, or maybe sintered too but the arc melting or whatever would be necessary to make nice beads would increase the production costs a good deal. If you find a supplier that does sell melted beads/pellets they may be worth getting though as collectors would be happy to pay extra to upgrade their standard compressed pellet examples of the element.

It seems like a toss up. Arc beads would be durable and you wont have to worry about dust coming off it, but the pellets would be more utilitarian being that they could be melted down with less effort.
The beads would be easier to test for quality and legitimacy however and may be cheaper due to them just pumping them out at random.

Unsure. I bought a few because they fascinated me, and I'm hoping they fare well. My major concerns are what they're proofs of and where from. In the stamps world, there are countries that produce what are called "Cinderella" stamps - ones that are issues by tiny countries and are meaningless in the postage world and will never be valuable, but they're pretty. I often wonder if the South Pacific and Caribbean and St. Helena coins are respectable, or do real numismatists think of them as Cinderellas.
But sometimes I can't help myself.

Any of you bros have a MacBook Pro box handy? I just won this solid sterling piece which i believe to be a thicc chonky beer tankard (for patrician style booze binging). No weight or dimensions were given or anything for scale besides the computer box, but if even the small 13" MacBook pro comes in a box that is 2.2" thick then I believe the tankard is around 6" or so and ought to weigh 10 or more ounces. Oh so there's only 3 left to get? Maybe I will get them all then just to say "I completed a series", lol. I actually bought the stuff in the picture at a gun show, the brown Ike was $12 while the 90% was 21x fv. I don't think the Brown Ikes were much more at the coin show. If anything I might get a deal since he'll get a chance to offload a few.

When I can finally afford a full ounce of gold, I really hope it's a modern maple. The sunburst design shows off gold's beauty so well and is a great security feature. New Britannias in my honest opinion look just a little too busy. I preferred the 2020 design with the wavy sunburst rather than the newer wave background.

I have been looking into Osmium and definitely want to buy some. Apart from the special properties and rarity, I really like how it looks like Platinum but with a nice blue tinge. I saw somewhere that they were only able to turn it into a metal in 2014. I was having trouble figuring out the actual price and whether the beads and stuff on eBay were legit because this article said they could make it via crystal forming. I will look more into it, the article might have been baloney, I will watch the video you posted.

>I want to get a stack going but I also dont want to get fucked with because of it.

My man. First of all figure out the actual spot price for Rhenium metal, a surprisingly difficult thing to do((they)) don't want you to know?)). On eBay, you have all sorts of people selling way over spot (including the Israeli selling polished lumps for like 8x over spot). Do not buy any of this stuff. You can get deals on eBay but for the most part they are overcharging, surprisingly they are also selling tons of it. These people will be making a big profit because they are buying it at spot prices and then selling it for 3x 8x 20x spot etc. It does show that people want to get into Rhenium but they have no idea of proper pricing, or where to source it. It is also a very illiquid market, so it can fluctuate a lot more than other metals.

At the beginning of the year I was paying around $1100 per kilo of Rhenium pellets. When I look up the spot price now it is saying $1480-$1730 per kilo.
$1480 https://strategicmetalsinvest.com/current-strategic-metals-prices/
$1730 https://tm2.com/market/technology-metals-pipeline/rhenium/

These prices might be wrong, but they are what I found doing a cursory search right now. I am going to check in again with my metals dealer to see what price they are selling Rhenium for. Its possible the price is still around $1100 but it looks like the price might have gone up a bit.

In terms of where to buy it, I think that you will probably need to make contact with a company that is used to supplying industry. That is where you will most likely get prices close to spot in my opinion, though they may be slightly averse to smaller orders.

Just looking stuff up, saw luciteria selling Rhenium metal at $10 per 10 grams on eBay for little beads. I might be missing something, I will have to question my ideas of spot prices perhaps. Hmm. Might be a good price but I could be missing something. They might have meant to write 1g or something? Title says 10g but listing description says 'Listing is for one gram bead(s) in labeled bottle.', don't know if that means the beads are 1 gram each or 1 gram in total in which case the title is wrong.

I think the minimum for 1kg is about 1000 dollars. There was a listing for 500g of recycled rhenium for 500 bucks but I cant say if its legit. Still comes out to 1 dollar per gram. Ive found several rhenium suppliers online, some closer than others. I might get a quote from a few of them and see what the rangs is.

i feel like physical bullion markets are for less speculative assets and those extended pt metal groups are certainly just that. also they dont have the history that gold, silver and platinum does. could be fun to buy but i wouldnt stack it or even count it with my hoard, it would be a novelty item or a collectible at that point (which is still worth having if youre into it)

also, the properties of platinum metal groups generally seem very similar. id have a difficult time distinguishing a few apart. the assay would make it easier but then im simply trusting what the assay is. with gold, silver and platinum its a bit easier for me to identify it

To be clear I am not claiming that it is a better investment than gold/silver.

I have seen rings made from Rhenium. It is very hard to work though, that is true. I think the ring cost over $1000 to get made.

Coins from melted Rhenium may be possible, pressed powder/melted is very possible and I have seen those.

>I think there is a pretty good supplier in Rotterdam.

Thanks fren! I have seen some Asian suppliers and while I've bought tons of chems and other stuff from China I'm not confident purity of their PGMs would match advertised claims

I am sorry that I cannot share by the way. They are a company used to dealing with industry and made an exception for me, I am not sure if they want to be widely advertised in this capacity. If you search on the internet with the names of a bunch of these metals, you should be able to find some suppliers potentially. That is how I found this company.

All of this underlines the point that 'strategic metals' such as Rhenium are very illiquid and do not have a tradition of being traded like gold/silver. This is is not necessarily for everyone.

Yes I could, on eBay there is a profit margin (at least from when I bought last, I haven't checked their current prices). I already run a business though that is good enough for my time/enjoyment. If I were a teenager still looking for stuff to do again I would probably give it a go.

What is particularly interesting is that guy in Israel, if you can get access to an arc smelt that can deal with Rhenium it seems you can sell it for much larger premiums than basic pellets if you make it look shiny and pretty. Forgetting about Rhenium there are other metals like Osmium and Iridium too you could do this with, basically bridging the gap from the industrial world to private collectors world. This seems to be what this Luciteria guy is doing https://luciteria.com/

In 2009 that 'Cohen Mint' person made the first ever Rhodium coin if I am understanding correctly (limited 1000 supply). Little projects like that might be cool for these various lesser known metals.

That is fair, if you notice on eBay a lot of these metals are being sold to people that want to collect all of the stable elements. So they are not necessarily buying them like you would a usual pm. When buying the metals for myself, I had it in mind that I would have no expectation of selling them but rather just a thing to collect and also in case they do go crazy I would at least have some.

The company I bought these off actually wanted to sort of give me a bit of a warning before purchasing them. One, they said in smaller amounts it would be harder to sell because industrial purchasers buy big amounts (though they admitted you could maybe try ebay or something). Two they had a very interesting anecdote about Tantalum, apparently an investment broker a while ago approached a bunch of investors to group invest in Tantalum. The company took a large broker fee from the initial purchase of the Tantalum, then when the investors tried to sell the Tantalum due to the illiquidity they also took a large haircut on the sell side. Ended up losing like 30% or something I cannot remember exactly.

With shleves full of Rei ayanami and love hina figures or various anime girls in swimsuits. I thought to myself “what would I do if I brought a non anime fan girl back here?” So sold it all when I moved house. That was like 2012. Now my room is full of losing lottery tickets and whisky bottles.

its maybe easy to forget how, as recently as 2001 Gold was around $263/oz and even in 2016 it was around $1000/oz

And how Silver was around $4/oz in 2001, and $14/oz around 2016

wouldnt surprise me too much to see current prices dip lower as we navigate through this clown show economy. But at least we can count on prices going back up at some point in the cycle and then , we can have our day in the Sun if we choose to sell some when it moons like when Silver was near $50/oz in 2011

Help guys. I can't for the life of me find a half tube to store my 2 RM. They're 25mm. I've looked on all the coin supply sites and I can't find a half tube. I only have the 10x 2 RM and will maybe only get another 10 in the future so I don't need anything more than a half tube, and I don't want to buy 25 or 100 of them, just to get the one.

1 toz silver = 1 toz silver +/- a little on the premium.

Gems vary on their weight, the type of cut, the skill of the cut, the clarity, the colour, the lack/presence of inclusions.

All of this makes pricing gems much more subjective, and thus a much more risky investment.

High premiums and inflation. People don't have much spare cash anymore to put into silver so the buying rate is down.

Another problem is that the people who started buying almost 2 years ago with the start of the squeeze now have "enough" silver and have either stopped buying it or slowed down.

Ok I have done some good research on Osmium now.

First of all, beware of the scammers claiming Osmium is 1600 bucks a gram. They have set up an elaborate network of websites claiming the price is this high and also selling it for that price.

The sscam is described here https://www.reddit.com/r/Wallstreetosmium/comments/sj461p/beware_of_the_german_osmium_scam_mafia/

Secondly, the price of raw Osmium powder appears to be $10-$12k

Osmium can be highly toxic, especially when in the form of powder.

The usual price people pay for Osmium metal beads is around $25-$40 a gram (though sometimes less and sometimes more).
