When I was unemployed I learned to day-trade out of necessity. I slowly got better and better over the months but didn't realize it.
I realized just 1 day into my new job that I was making far, far less at this job than I was by day-trading and so it was basically losing me money. The only reason I had the job at all was for financial stability, but I realized that the opportunity cost just wasn't worth it.

A can costs 0.85 EUR. I eat half a can everyday, sometimes when I'm really hungry I eat a whole can but I divide it into two portions. I don't eat anything else beside this chicken soup.

I make most of my meals from ingredients.
Biggest meal is breakfast. Dinner is like any typical 3 ingredient lunch you could get at any typical lunch eatery. That's it. Only twice. It's all I need. Never feel hungry.
The only things I don't prepare by my own hands are pre-made bread (which usually has nuts and fruit, or cheese, embedded), poppadoms, spring rolls, prawn toast, dumplings.
I could do them though, they are fairly trivial. Reason for spring rolls, prawn toast and dumplings is it is all in a pack together, and bread because bread is finicky, likewise poppadoms. (more so than bread!)
Oh, and I guess some sauces. But those are so cheap anyway. I waste more buying games I still haven't played. I could buy 20 sauces with a game.
No smartphone, no shitty subs for TV, or music, or satellite / cable.
There is enough free shit out there to enjoy.
Never have the heating on unless dangerously cold. Easier to cover up with clothes, then a hot water bottle, then covers, THEN heating. it rarely comes to that.
