The problem with going into an office is all the gossip, pointless meetings, firefighting, etc. that prevents real value from being added.
All your tech and data people sitting at home in their underwear at their custom workstation and doing one ticket a day will surprisingly get a lot more done than bringing everybody in to play office politics for 8+ hours every day.

That's not true at all, is cope, and does not jive with what I've seen this entire pandemic from /biz/. It's clear that people are upset with office culture, but it won't change the fact that giving everyone free rein has been terrible for companies. "Office gossip" is literally optional. No one is going to give a fuck if you just don't participate. Meetings are somewhat valid, as most meetings are pointless, but realistically this only takes up about 1-2 hours per week.

You have to understand the meta nature of work. Do you think Google needs 100,000 engineers for a couple of webapps? Of course not: It is not a coincidence that they launch and shut down projects all the time. IT is not about engineering; IT is about MBAs bossing nerds around. As an engineer, your value add is not your throwaway code, but being a good servant to your boss, who is a good servant to their boss. It is feudalism all the way up. If someone manages plenty of nerds with fancy titles, they are high-powered managers as seen from above. The org chart is everything. In fact, if they produce complete garbage which could be replaced by a junior's weekend project, it does not matter, because they get to play IT feudalism. See how tech skills does not come into the equation? This is your pill to swallow. It also explains why interviews are a never ending BS. Most companies have no use for your work, as they have ample personpower to build whatever they want, have moats and integrations that will last for decades. Being capable is not something they are interested in, hiring people with similar personalities as themselves is the priority. They want to create tight-knit tribes that they can command. Rarely, though, you may interview at a place that is desperate for a capable wage slave. You can say whatever you want, even be politically incorrect, and they will hire you regardless, on the spot. However this is rarely the case.

I can squeeze out about 3-4 hours of reasonable concentration per day, more if I'm exerting myself, but that isn't sustainable. Literally no one can do difficult work for an entire day on a long term basis. That's only possible if you literally don't have to think to do your job, like data inputting or very basic manual labour. If you have to think, or especially if the quality of your output is dependent on the quality of your thinking, then you aren't going to be able to do more than a few hours per day. If you can, you're either lying or aren't actually exerting yourself, in which case, get a new job that's more challenging.
