why 8 million? why are so many /biz/raelis so obsessed with the idea of driving a $200,000 car and living in a $3,000,000 house? Only jackasses live like that

your goal should be more like 1.5 to 2 million. $500,000 house. $60,000 car. Change your perspective and you'll be a lot less hopeless about how far away your goals are.

I agree with your sentiment, however $20k is a little extreme, even if your house is paid off you need to spend ~$10k per year on insurance and property taxes, so you'd be left with $650 per month to spend on literally everything else

$40k per year is a more realistic number for what you need to be happily retired if you already own a paid-off house

500k house isn't shit, is that a 2br?

>> No.49330635

>>49330550
$500k will buy you a 2,250 sqft 3BR house in a good location in any second-tier city (Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Dallas, Raleigh, Philadelphia, etc.). If you think you need more space than that to be happy you're probably delusional.

Depends where you live, in California or some city area 20k is homeless tier, but where I live I can get a $600 m/o studio apartment and I can commute using an electric bike. I can get internet for $30 m/o, food is about 2k a year, I cant think of any other major expenses right now but its do-able. I agree 40k is ideal though for retirement

I wanna be able to stop working so I can travel whenever and I wanna be able to buy a new Porsche every other year if I feel like it. $2 million net worth is not gonna cut it.
>>49330635
Funny. That's about what I paid for my place in Atlanta a year ago. Now this house is worth almost $700k. $500k won't get you anything good nowadays unless you wanna live in the boondocks.

you have to factor in unexpected expenses:
>your air conditioning craps out and needs to be replaced: $6,000
>your toilet starts leaking while you're away on vacation and you have to fix a bunch of water damage in your house: $10,000
>a driver with no insurance crashes into your car and totals it, forcing you to buy a new (used) car: $30,000
>medical bills...
like yeah it's possible to survive on $600 per month, until something happens and it isn't. You need to have a buffer to absorb unexpected expenses.

Having 200k in a bear market make you a potential millionaire. You only have to scout the market, and buy the dip. That is the way. I have been stocking XPRESS awaiting the 35% burn of the token.
