So if they don't re-peg to something else then everyone who owned assets prior to this "hack" loses 99% of their investment (that's happened before with LUNA, kek). If they do re-peg, those people would lose only a smaller fraction of their asset while people who bought it for cheap profit on the difference. That seems like a better solution than allowing this to continue. Rolling everything back costs a bunch of different people their money and doesn't fix the peg issue either as far as I can tell.
