334735 No.334735[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

I just completed a 2 and a half month paid internship with an investment bank. Will answer questions if anyone has any ^_^

Yes. I received a full time offer to start at the end of this year when I finish my studies.

What are u majoring in exactly?
Did you do anything special to stand out(resume wise)?

>> No.334747 [DELETED]

how were the hours?

Bachelor of Commerce majoring in finance and a Bachelor of laws.

You can study law at an undergraduate level in Australia.

Resume wise; I went on student exchange to the University of Hong Kong for 6 months, volunteered in Laos, and am a volunteer firefighter.

I also came second in a very competitive student business case study competition where some of the competitors are studying MBAs which initially attracted the attention of recruiters.

Just to add: I had also competed a prior internship with a big 4 accounting firm

What was your WAM/GPA like? I also assume you went to a Go8 uni?

>> No.335019

I just finished a 2 month internship with the DOD. Let me give you confidential information.

There's a reason bankers aren't all over the press with their ask me anything. It's illegal. So what were you? Some janitor? I'm sure you wouldn't jeopardize your career to receive some sort of validation from a bunch of NEET potato heads?

>> No.335020

yeah righto

>> No.335029

My WAM was 84 when I applied.

>>335019
I was never told anything of the sort, sounds like you just made that up. In fact there are forums dedicated to bankers discussing their professions.

>>334981
Yeah I was paid, no it wasn't good for the hours I was working.

>> No.335032

>>334984

And that's why you'll never get an IB/MBB offer out of university.

>> No.335040

>>335029

So you weren't important enough to sign a confidentiality constraint.

>> No.335047

>>335040
I received a contract via email which I signed, that was it.

And so far in this thread I have disclosed: Where I have worked, and then some random personal details about what I've studied which are completely unrelated to where I've worked. So even if I had a confidentiality clause in my agreement, none of the information that I have disclosed is confidential so I wouldn't be in breach of contract.

>> No.335100

>>335047

>signs a contract sent via email without reading it

I wouldn't even believe you are a bank teller.

>> No.335157

>>335100
I know you're trying to troll, but your stupidity still manages to shine through which is impressive. I never mentioned whether I did or didn't read it, you just falsely inferred that because you're an idiot. The second part of that post was a hypothetical, in no way was it a reflection on whether I had or had not read it. I've studied contract law, and confidentiality clauses are restricted to specific information e.g. customer lists/valuations/costings/intellectual property otherwise they can be thrown out of court. Reflecting on your personal experiences isn't a breach of contract you clown.

It's a little alarming that they let simpletons like you into the Department of Defence.

I'm doing an internship for 10 weeks next summer there, would love answers to these;

1. How much were you paid at the end of it?
2. How many hours did you work?
3. Did you make any connections there?
4. Was it a good experience?
5. We're you offered a job there at the end? And if so, when are you joining and what will you be paid?
6. How old are you?

I'll be 19 when I start my internship and will be through my first year at LSE studying Economics. So a job offer seems unlikely for me.

>> No.335202

>>335175
Not OP but did BB IBD SA
Roughly 20k for 1k hours, so not bad
Actual work experience wasn't great
Networking within firm was great and got great references + resume padding but networking outside firm is impossible due to work schedule
Didn't receive offer and probably would have accepted but sought other opportunities; ended up interning at a hedge fund and getting fulltime offer there

>> No.335206

>>335175
>1. How much were you paid at the end of it?
I was making roughly 1.5k a week

>2. How many hours did you work?
The hours are very rough. Once I started my internship I came to the realisation that up until that moment I had never really worked a day in my life. I caught the night bus/taxi home many a time because the trains had stopped running at the times I was getting out.

We had put it to an hourly rate (myself and other interns) and worked out that we were making roughly $19 an hour, which is $6 less than I was making at Bunnings.

>3. Did you make any connections there?
Lots, It's a real bonding experience.

>4. Was it a good experience?
You learn to work efficiently and productively more than anything. I already knew most of the modelling and valuation, the main thing you gain is the drive. It's hard to put it to words, but I'm in my final year of university and I can just shrug off assignments and bust them out in a day now with little effort required.

>5. We're you offered a job there at the end? And if so, when are you joining and what will you be paid?
Yes I received an offer, I'll be joining just after I graduate. Starting salary is $78k, bonus usually sits somewhere between 30-40k.

>6. How old are you?
21

Everyone knows what people wear, but I was curious what designers people wear (because I know in some firms (old guys in) upper management don't like fashionable analysts).

Nothing special, just random brands from DJs mostly. I do have a very expensive Versace tailored suit but I rarely wore it, and if I did I made sure to kind of make a half-joke of it/ not take myself seriously as to avoid ridicule.

That's very strange as spring internships at goldman, jp morgan and other big players only take 2-4 weeks.

Summer internships can take as long as you say but it's May right now.

I think trollfag detected tbh.

Ah yes, the coveted Spring internship that goes from March to May...

>> No.338739

I don't know about OP, but at my bank the spring interns are basically a bunch of kids in suits who carry portable folding chairs with them. You see them go up and down in the elevator constantly as they shuffle between floors, where they're basically told to go sit behind people and watch them do their job without interrupting too much.

Real prestigious, yeah.

I think it's hot OP. Do you have a chiseled bod from fighting fires? Post pics pls

For the record, ibanking in Australia is a fucking joke. Up to senior associate, you're a middle-office power point monkey, whose branch probably closes 3 deals a year. Do not apply any info in this thread to your region if you're London or SF/NYC.

Starting salary barely breaches 6 digits all in for BB. Not even that at commercial banks. For reference, you'll make that much as a shift manager at a Grocery store in Australia.

No-one in Australia even knows what investment banking is -- there's no status associated with it. Makes sense, because there's only 3-4 Universities in Australia that everyone ends up going to.

People think they're bank tellers, and they may as well be considering they work barely 60 hours a week and count numbers in excel. Despite this, they like to imagine they're the real deal like the adults on Wall Street.

Just look at this thread, who do you know in NYC is gonna hire a "volunteer firefighter" LOL. Anyone remember Jeffrey Chiang?
