I think this is sort of a bunk argument because in a world where you can fork a codebase and release a 'competitor', it immediately opens up to division of loyalty to a currency via marketing etc. and you end up with tons of shitcoins. Just look around you. If you have something truly great, you want an initial patent to protect the rights to it while you get funding. Patents don't last forever. They could go open source in X years after they have their bearings as a company. Just look at what Microsoft started doing with some of their codebases.

how important are people like hoskinson to getting the coin off the ground compared to "big tech partnerships" which are sounding kind of meme when ADA's growth has been crushing HBARs

Hbar is the astronomical symbol of Saturn. It’s a letter that comes from an old language, and I’m not going to attempt to convince a schizo of anything. However I think they probably chose the hbar symbol because of its significance in math and physics. Leemon is a high IQ nerd. h usually refers to planks constant, and Paul Dirac used hbar to denote h divided by 2 pi. It’s a really common number that’s used in a lot of calculations. That’s my guess anyway.

Finally, someone gets it. Crypto noobs, who aren't even developers, are dumb with their muh open source argument. Simply regurgitating what they read elsewhere to sound like they know something.

I hope Hashgraph BTFO everyone just so all these noobs can be put in their place.

>but is the tradeoff worth it?

IMO yes because if we are being honest here, crypto's main use case right now is purely speculation. And ETH dapps are creative in how they advance speculation. But please show me an example of a project used in the "real world" that actually enhances their lives.

Hedera Hashgraph is actually being used in the real world. People just haven't learned it yet. Here is an example:

https://fortune.com/2021/01/19/hospital-uk-blockchain-vaccines/
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/19/uk-hospitals-use-blockchain-to-track-coronavirus-vaccine-temperature.html

Tracking covid vaccines on Hashgraph. You may ask yourself why. The reason is because Hashgraph's underlying consensus algo is very very fast, because it is not a slow blockchain.

Hedera Hashgraph has a service called the Hedera Consensus Service (HCS). They are throttled to 10K tps right now. So any single piece of data, anywhere, can be timestamped and logged on Hashgraph and can be accessed at any point. And it just so happens that network is validated by the likes of Google, IBM, LG, etc. So you don't have to worry about basement dwelling retards deciding to fuck the network up.

What can do you with a globally distributed network processing tens of thousands (EOY 100K, they are implementing sharding) transactions per second? Literally anything. You can log any single piece of data on Hashgraph.

Once you realize this, you realize why big corporations are joining the council. This goes against the crypto ethos of "down with the banks and corporations". But for people who have bene in crypto for years and want to see actual real world application besides gambling, Hashgraph has FINALLY fucking proven that. Fucking FINALLY. That's why a lot of people here on biz are fanatics, and this is exactly why when people slowly get redpilled, the cult of Hashgraph will grow.

The Hedera Governing Council consists of up to 39 term-limited (3 years max and 2 consecutive terms, members can rejoin after a 3 year waiting period) companies (currently at 17 companies and features Boeing, Deutsche Telekom, Google, IBM, LG) all with equal votes.
The Governing council must feature:
- 1+ Member from each of the GICS sectors (Global Industry Classification Standards)
>These are: Energy, Materials, Industrials, Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples, Health Care, Financials, Information Technology, Communication Services, Utilities & Real Estate
- 1+ Member from a top 10 ranked university
- 1+ Member who is leading an international NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation)
- 3+ Member from each global region: NA, SA, EMEA, APAC

There's 39 companies from various sectors, across the world, all with an equal vote in how the company is run. Most decisions require 2/3rds agreement to pass.

>50B Hbars is too many in circulation and therefore they can’t be worth much
Hbars are used for 2 things.
1) “Fuel” for the network to pay for Network Services (Application & Transaction Fees) and to incentivize nodes to contribute computing resources
2) Network Security - Once permissionless nodes are available, Hbars will be used as a proof-of-stake consensus model to protect the network.

A node's ability to influence consensus is proportional to the amount of Hbars it has.To achieve consensus the hashgraph algorithm requires two-thirds of the network's voting power. More Hbars you have, the more your node can affect consensus, so if you want to control the network you need 1/3rd of the total supply of Hbars. To prevent that, Hbars will need to be priced highly so that one large company can’t just buy up a 1/3 supply.
