You don't if you host on a vps or use the cloud. My nodes stay in my local wallet and are hosted on the cloud site.

Most financial systems operate on incentives so people are incentivized to run masternodes. I've actually thought about this as well. The system can support up to 7000 masternodes with the current supply, but if there is no adoption it doesn't work

there will always be a surplus of nodes than is needed to run the network, the additional nodes simply compete for the dex fees and slightly improve network speeds and security. a masternode actually by design cannot be set up and also never used - using the node and running it are different things. the node owners run the node and the network 'uses' or validates the txs. if someone simply held their 15k xsn and didn't stake it or set up a node they would simply miss out on the rewards which would go to other users without detriment to the network itself.
