Modern cars are designed to total themselves from the smallest fender benders.
Meanwhile, the only meaningful metric that correlates with accident fatalities for a couple decades now is how much traffic there is in an area. I doubt you are going to get on from the early 90s or older in any case.

That's the point retard, you have the hull and the components absorbing as much kinetic energy as possible rather than your own body, they HAVE to deform. alright let me teach you a trick. most people don't do this cause its autistic as fuck but it helps keep things in perspective.

ask yourself how many years you want to own a car. Will you drive it into the dirt? is this your DD? whatever. figure it out. usually you'll add about 14k miles a year. wayyyy less if you WFH. figure out your number.

So take the miles per year number in your head and multiply it by the amount of years you plan to own the car. Example. 14k miles times 8 years is 112k

now look at the car you want. cars pretty much fit into 3 categories.

>brand new

>Lightly used (like a car that was previously leased)

>used, preferably from a single owner

>heavily used jalopy.

now approximate how much it's resell is going to be after x years and xxx thousand miles later, subtract the expected resale from the purchase price. Divide the remainder by the amount of miles you anticipate to put on the car.

That is a VERY rough estimate of your price per mile. The price is actually much higher when you factor in gas, maintenance, taxes, etc. finance options, etc.

When you run the numbers, the best deal is usually paying cash outright for an older car from a single owner who put somewhere around 60k miles on it. Especially if its a reliable make and model.

remember guys, if you're trying to impress a lady- remember: No lady worth being with is ever impressed by a cars make and model. Keep it clean and tidy and she won't give two shits, spend your money elsewhere. Like haircuts and keeping your house looking nice.

>do you worry about safety issues? I read that modern cars are much safer than the older generation
>Not really.

Nah my reading comprehension is fine, problem is you only have one life and it's stupid to cross fingers and hope that all the accidents that you will ever be a part of (if any) will be like the majority of accidents. A specific frontal impact between two cars could be 100% survivable in a modern car where if you took the same scenario with the same impact in a 90s shitbox you'd end up maimed or dead, all because the components on your car being too tough and letting an extra 5-10mph (w/e that translates into kinetic energy) slip into your own body.

You can bet that you will be fine and that nothing of the sort will happen to you if you are a poorfag that can't afford a new car, however if you made it and had the means I find it so incredibly stupid you wouldn't spend a bit extra to get that peace of mind, on top of also having superior comfort options like multilink / pneumatic suspensions, ventilated seats, all sorts of assists that can make the driving less taxing on longer trips.

There is only one acceptable case where you have money and refuse to buy a new (expensive) car and that's if you are playing super-long term and aiming towards building multi-generational wealth, where every dollar re-invested has the potential to 10x and beyond, but we both know the majority of /biz/ shitbox posters are not like that. Also imagine dying halfway through your plan because you were trying to min-max so hard you couldn't just spend 30k on a proper car. Top keks.

There's your answer. Do you know what happens when a larger object collides with a smaller one? (by mass not size)
Hint: try launching a bowling ball against a foot ball and vice-versa. See what happens.

>but my point is an all steel vehicle is way more safer than that fiberglass plastic bullshit they make cars out of nowadays

It just looks safer at low speeds because there's not enough accumulated energy for you to absorb. You are arguing against the laws of physics here. And no, a proper premium car will have the core structure made of reinforced steel, the rest of the components don't have to be steel as long as the impact doesn't deform the chasis in such a way to crush you on the inside. You know what else modern cars have that old shitboxes don't? The engine falls down and goes under you in case of impact rather than being pushed inside your cabin into your fucking face.

I will give in and say that if the impact is not deadly the car will needlessly deform in places that an older model wouldn't but if you are a good driver you shouldn't worry about hitting your own car. If the other party hits you, their insurance pays for the damages.
